Let's make clear, my idea was allways to favour one fighter this time. To explore other alternatives for tridents that ORE are unwilling to try. To explore the combat possibilities... and discover how easy/hard it is to destroy one...
And while manufactured one is result of hard work, if "lasts forever" due insurance, what I consider great.
But the same company that wants to introduce it to consumer market will sponsor NW. What better advertising opportunity would be than the most important sport in universe? The NW winner is admired everywhere, imagine him piloting a Trident-M!
Being non-insured, and limited to one week of ownership... maybe enforce it changes owner every week... but add one more cappie "to the other side"... when I expect to see that one alternate with pirates and nationalists... Either single-life or insured for 1 week only!
CD, nothing personal... yours is eternal, Trident-M #00001 Pink Edition! But I really don't expect that ORE will take it to Deneb, or attack ConqStations, or impose WH blockades... I expect ORE to explore mining, trade and hunt queens with it....
Going OT, who will produce this Trident-M? Only TPG ?... Or finally Orion completed its shipyards and declare its production of civilian versions?

I think an uninsured trident that is given to whomever wins Nation War the next week might be a good idea. I was under the impression you planned to give a trident to each winner, insured and all.
No, this is not a good idea. Right now the Trident Type-M represents the Most Difficult Object To Get in the galaxy, requiring I don't know how many man hours. While winning the nation war takes a certain amount of skill, it is entirely tangential and incomparable to the amount of effort crafting a Type-M must take.
Right now the player owned Trident is kind of like a Stealth Bomber. The first one has just been produced, and the rest of us aren't too sure of its capabilities but we know it's really expensive and takes a lot of time to make. I can't imagine this is the dev's final vision for the Type-M, on the other hand I don't think packaging it into some sort of nation war trophy is the right idea either.
Instead of asking for a whole Trident, why not consider that [ORE] probably didn't hit the exact amount of parts needed (or maybe they did, I'm not in that guild), and may have some spares left over. Rather than trying to build the whole thing why not aim for just an 80MW Inverted Pulse Displacement Engine and see what happens. Maybe somebody needs one really badly and is willing to trade you a Milanar Master Computing System.... or 50 Fused Composite Platings.
In this humble player's opinion the fact that the Type-M can be flown anywhere and used for any purpose makes it a grey market item, viable to grey market smugglers and merchants. Remember that there is a whole military rank structure system on the drawing board that has yet to be implemented. I can foresee that attaining a certain military rank would grant one the right to commandeer a capital vessel for nationalistic purposes, however the activities one could direct said cap ship in would be highly focused and limited compared to a player crafted one. If captain so and so went off the reservation and up the river s/he would have their rank yanked from them and would be terminated with extreme prejudice.
I think that the Type-M as currently implemented is a testbed for many more player owned capital ship features down the road, just as Deneb is a testbed for dynamic warfare and the conquerable stations in grey are a testbed for... well... conquerable stations everywhere. Instead of giving the Type-M away, let's remain patient and see where this leads.

Also... do you realize bad (or good, though not in this case.) an idea has to be for Nahin and I to agree on anything? You want a glorified moth? build it. The current system, which is meant as a test... favors no one and is available (one way or another) to everyone.

I love how everyone keeps repeating that this is a test. I can't abide Incarnate, he's gone all out douchebag on me on several occasions, but I have to respect his ability to get people to continue to pay for his never-ending beta test. How has he got anyone convinced VO will every be anything else?

I continue to pay for the utility I get from the game. Vendetta got a few simple things Right, and the rest is a slow emergence. Today's established features were radically new and different so many years ago, and so many years from now there will be new features that need to be hammered out and tempered. To an extent an MMO is a never ending beta test, if that's what you choose to call it. However there are certain things that I think could detract from the game, one of these is a flat or high entropy universe. That is why I'm against giving away the most valued item in game for the nation war, although there should be multiple paths to get it.
Why not, Phaserlight? I don't see how the game unbalances after you give the trident to NW winners.
Remeber, this is ONE and only one Trident, originally proposed as NOT insured... to explore its combat possibilities, something that [ORE] probably will not do, and they are right in doing so.
Also, it is not a permanent feature, like all nation wars from now one will give a Trident... it is something exceptional. Even like make an 1h BusWar and the one with more kills take a Trident for a test-drive, active for 1 week, if not destroyed before.
For me this is very different from building a cappie that you will own it for the rest of your life, and if destroyed, it can be easily replaced!
Indeed, the whole manufacturing/insurance as is now makes no sense. Why you need one megazillion crates of material to build first one, but only a few credits for 2nd on? This will have to be improved... and all the required grinding, as someone already said: I pay to play, not to work.

Well, actually it does, because the devs don't want us having a trident yet. They want to drag it out as long as possible, for a number of reasons that are beyond the scope of this thread.
As for Phaserlight's argument, he has a point. I like this idea (except applied to some other event than NW) for in the future, but currently I have changed my mind and I agree with him that it would devalue people's efforts to climb the massive mountain that the devs have given us as a delaying tactic. The novelty of trident scarcity won't last forever, so we should allow those few who manage it to enjoy it while they can.

If they don't want us to have them why tease the userbase with the possibility? It's like saying you'll fix the economy and then changing the name of the money from "credits" to "shillings", except the devs said they'd fix the economy and haven't
The short answer is: They couldn't put it off any longer, but they don't like the idea of people using the unfinished version, so they made it stupidly hard to get to reduce the number of people who actually get one.
I don't really care; I have little personal use for a capship. I haven't been waiting for six years like some people, nor am I some idiot newb from EvE with an inferiority complex. I get enough enjoyment out of killing people with normal fighters to keep playing. That is the game I signed up for and that is the game I enjoy. Capships are just icing to me.

The best way to test capships in mass PvP is to give it to NW winners or any other player run event.

If the devs want to test combat capabilities of the trident M... why not simply host an event with a set amount of Trident M's (respective to the number of players who sign onto pilot them/one per guild) and a set amount of fighters/bombers (all player piloted).
This would be a better test of combat ability than just giving one to the winners of nation war. In reality, a Trident M prize for NW would likely never see combat... until the winners stared squabbling over it.

"ORE is unwilling to explore" I was always willing, but I promised my manufacturing team we would start with mining operations, and many of us needed a break after finishing it. Also, I usually can't be on for Nation War at it's current day & time.
I sprung one on NW yesterday. Kiss it goodbye. It would only be fun to bring back if each team was REQUIRED to have one, so that everyone had to defend theirs, but still: it would come down to what team had surviving fighters. To this end, I would suggest a dev-hosted event where each team picks a pilot to receive one, for use only for that event.
@ Impavid: so, you're saying Role-Playing built this ship? Who'd have thought...

Raybondo was participating last NW piloting superbus.. Why not use trident today?
Some of you seem to have gotten the wrong idea.
The Idea is to have a single trident that would not be insured and would be passed from winner to winner. A new trident would be provided if the previous winner actually was destroyed. The passing could be done by exploding it at midnight Sunday after NW and then giving the winner a cargo widget to get one free trident at m7 until there is a way to pass it with the key system.

@ PaK: I guess I'm saying -1 to such a prize for a player event. A dev created prize should be for a dev-designed/monitored event. (*cough cough* Devs?) Also, as you have mentioned here or there, the trident isn't a fully shareable resource yet, so it would not currently be a good team reward.
Player events should have prizes that players are capable of contributing. Are you willing to pony up a master computer to the NW winning team? A kit to build a reactor? I'd be hard pressed to let go of one for an event in which I am rarely able to participate, but someone might be able to sweet talk/bribe me into it. Still a difficult prize to share, but it could then be auctioned, tho my intention is that you win enough events, you are well positioned to build a trident yourself, without the hassle of station conquest beyond access to Pelatus to make the reactor.
The reality of what this thread is asking is to make a one-off new version of a ship they obviously intended to see in very limited use while they worked its bugs out, balanced its stats, interface, available equipment, (shared piloting?), etc. I want them to be easier to attain too, which is the main reason we committed to building/testing it (you think I want to do that mission again on another alt?!). I think we beat their estimate of how much time the Type M mission would buy them, but once a few more people take the plunge, they can have more than one informed opinion lighting up the bugs & suggestions forums with Type M threads.
My previous tangent suggestion was meant to say that I am not opposed to ways to allow some "for event only" use of them, but it would be unfair to myself and my team, and any others playing the content as it was implemented to gift them this soon, even in the limited way this thread suggests.
@ Pirren: there is a way to earn a trident thru PvP: Pillage, Maraud, Plunder & Loot enough crafted components from your hapless prey to build your own. :P

Actually I might have given a few parts as prizes if nw wasnt in pirate hands.
A dev sponsered event might work or they could get busy and make the cappies able to be piloted by others.
At any rate I suspect your going to be alone in ownership for a long while.....
