The devs don't really pay attention to suggestions, so why even have a suggestion forum?

As proof in point, this suggestion is quite likely to go unnoticed by the devs, as are all other suggestions in the suggestion forum.

This is the best troll forum ever! Just re-name it instead of removing it:)

+ 1

1. Why have suggestion forum if ya don't give a duck about what players think ? (ESPECIALLY new players)

2. Why have a suggestion forum, which does _NOT_ have polls ? This is completely pointless. This forum has no means to organize ideas into better ones and worse ones, so developers can PRIORITIZE what should be implemented first, and what later.

2a. Vendetta should have changed its forum system to PHPBB, SMF, vBulletin or something similiar ages ago. Ity offers TONS and TONS and TONS of features, which are missing on this one.

2b. I'm not even sure if the devs actually want any suggestions, or not - because it certainly does not look like it. So if You don't want suggestions, why continuously encourage posting to suggestion forums ?

My suggestion got implemented pretty quickly after I posted it. Come up with better suggestions? :P

Yep... Roda and PoL are absolutely right. As the Devs have not dropped everything and rushed right out to push every horrible idea they have in game, there is obviously no need for a suggestion forum or any other suggestions.

Come up with quality ideas and the Devs will get them in, come up with garbage (PoL) or the whining of spoiled children (Roda), and nothing will get accomplished.

This isn't even a bad trolling attempt... this is outright whining like a little girl. I nominate this thread for gayest thread of VOs existence.

MINOR change, as all the changes listed here.

Can somebody show me any MAJOR change in the gameplay proposed on forums and already implemented ? I seriously doubt there is one.

IMHO this game is in no way community-driven (as for example Open Source games are). The devs have their views on everything, and they only do their vision of the game. The only suggestions that have a chance of approval are the very easy to implement and minor ones.

[EDIT]
"The only suggestions that have a chance of approval are the very easy to implement and minor ones."

"The only suggestions that have a chance of approval are the very good ones which are not my horrendous and pointless ideas, which are continually shot down as the retarded drivel that they are and that hurts my feelings because I am the one true saviour of VO whether or not everyone realizes it or not and only my ideas can save this game that has existed for nearly ten years without me".

Fixed that for you.

I'm still waiting for my catgirl crafting system to be implemented. The devs just don't listen.

Lets add (references provided where found):

* Roid occlusion ( http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/3/7381 )
* THE X-1!! (flatten valk, can't find thread but I remember being one of those who was asking for it)
* many plugin abilities/sandboxings (including access to VO's interface code [ http://vo-wiki.com/wiki/ChangeLog/1.8#Vendetta_version_1.8.11 ], plugin layer [ http://vo-wiki.com/wiki/ChangeLog/1.8#Vendetta_version_1.8.15 ], and locking out ship control)

That's just off the top of my head... there's so much more!!

Just because the devs don't implement every suggestion doesn't invalidate this forum. This is NOT an opensource game! It is NOT designed by committee (thank god, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Design_by_committee ). The devs have (and will always have) final say of what goes into their game. If you don't like the game don't play!

For a closed source game VO has one of the most open discussion/implementation track records I've seen. Roda/POL, you don't belong here, go join a opensource project and see if the programmers there care about your suggestions, I guarantee they won't. Opensource means you have the option to go implement a feature yourself. Programmers in general won't listen to your stupid suggestions (and they are stupid, the committee in this thread seems to agree on that point), and even if you go implement your stupidity the public codebase of whatever project you're trying to soil would likely reject your commits and block your IP. You always have the option of branching the code and hosting your own project branch, and trying to convince the naive to join your soon to fail side-project. Good luck convincing people that will actually be constructive to the project, more then likely the people that join will be just like you, useless whiny bitches!!

You both seem to lack an understanding of how the world works, and I'm surprised either of you have made it this far in life.

That will be all :)

I have had dozens of my own suggestions implemented over the last almost 8 years the latest examples being border skirmish XP (partial implementation because i said ALL things should get it but someone posting a bug with the thread helped at least get something useful AND a dev response)

and also race track stats/badges

Plus dozens of things on the pcc side that actually made it more useful and also less broken.

The devs do listen.

Many good points, mostly in favor of the devs.

However, I still feel that some issues on the suggestion forum are handled poorly.

It makes some sense that if players mostly ignore a thread, then the devs can also safely ignore it. This allows trivial post to fade into obscurity where they belong.

But anything that attracts player participation should be of interest to the devs, in game or on the forums.

This is not a democracy. The devs can do, and not do, anything they want. This is an entertainment business. And business is business.

If I think I have a good suggestion about game mechanics, I am not going to kiss some dev ass to get it implemented. It only affected the devs indirectly. I am going to present the idea to players, because it affects the players directly. The devs are only affected to the extent that the idea impacts business. And generally speaking, happy customers are good business.

I see that many suggestions have been implemented. This appears to support the idea that the devs are responsive. Which leaves an issue of contrast. Why would otherwise responsive devs suddenly fail in significant form?

I will leave the why to someone else to answer. The point is, they are failing, and past successes will only buy so much, for only so long.

I am a customer. I am but one customer. A popular thread is more than one customer. For how ever popular a tread is, it is that many customers multiplied by an unknown silent audience. And it deserves attention in appropriate proportion.
