Conquerable Stations - Scorched, um, Earth

The point is as the mechanics stand, only a large group of players has the ability to take and hold a station. Since there is only one large group of players in a game with very few players anyway, the consequence is that smaller groups don't bother because there is no benefit.

THE POINT of this thread is to suggest gameplay mechanics that have more than one side to them, mechanics that encourage interaction on levels other than "lets gather as many noobs as we can so no one else can land here" and god forbid make you fight for something that you could actually lose. All of the suggestions in this thread, starting with the OP, do that, and as predicted every post from you and your carebears claims none of them are good, won't work, or blah blah blah because in actuality they would work but mean you'd have to work for something and maybe get in a fight or two.

Black Matter can't come soon enough....

Ok. I'll take a stab at it.

The actual 'game' Vendetta Online is really a spring board, I use the term liberally from the christian perspective of using a single passage to expound upon the the preachers idea, to facilitate the true 'mmorg' which contains 90% of all player interaction which we all partake of here on the Suggestions forum.

The success of attaining a high level of player interaction on this forum is clearly what the dev's have been working towards all these years.

And Impavid, shouldn't the stations have some fucking value before an idea like this is even taken seriously? Sure I may have a few ships still docked at whatever station from when I actually bothered, but as far as I'm concerned the only value the stations have is the occasional fun of taking the damned things. Seriously. The lot of you need to pull up your big girl panties and move the fuck on. :p

They have a lot of value now or why would you douchebags hand out keys to every fucking n00b you meet? Free repairs, free and convenient storage, exclusive missions, and as the devs have stated time and again that's just the tip of the iceberg. All these benefits and ZERO penalty when you lose control of it, and so zero risk.

It's DUMB.

Oy Yay! Free repairs! Whoo Hoo! Hot Damn! Yeah BABY Yeah!

Convenient storage for what? Its not like there is a lack of stations in the systems, which is where I really keep my shit.

I suppose there may be missions now. I haven't bothered to dock with one of the pos in a few months. I hope you don't mean the one for manufacturing the biocom mine.

And yeah, The devs have also stated time and again that the economy will be finished, the faction system will be fixed and god knows what else.

So, should players lose their stored items when the station is lost? Hell yeah. Should the station be useless for a day and a half? Fuck no. Albeit, atm its useless 24 / 7 so it really doesn't matter.

He means the tellam mine "mission", yes.

But yah, other than that and free reps, there is zero benefit except bragging rights. And even those don't go too far.

As Fluffers said (and as I've been saying this whole damned thread), let's wait for the real value.

Im gonna agree with Atice AND IMP on this one.. frankly... when the stations DO get value there MUST be risk... Impavid is correct to point out that currently..the only risk is a bit of cash to take it back.... The reason every newb in the planet gets a key to most of the stations, except for CHRN at this moment (and i am not calling them out so dont get all pisssy) is because A: they have no value...so theres no reason not to give the newbs keys. and B: frankly..honestly TGFT and VPR dont LIKE CHRN ONE could frankly care less, but no ones actually attempted to contact them...and they dont give keys out as freely. I think this is the perfect place to voice ideas about how we can make the stations have value, and inherent risk... frankly i really think that the devs should just pull the goddamn things until they are complete... beta testing over... lots of bugs no reward.... CHRN and the group of pirates that are annoyed at VPR TGFT and everyone else... dont have to worry about it and get a chance at a fresh start... everyone else doesnt have to waste time and money defending/capturing/arguing with each other over worthless real estate...

Impavid:
If I steal your car and dump it later, I can still leave with your CD collection...

That is the whole point. If you steal/conquer something, you will own it and will be able to do whatever you want with it.

If someone Ninjas the station, great! Let him decide what to do with it, and plz teach me how?

All said except that looting should be an option!
Also, it shown that station has value, or else no one cared about it.

Looting = risk = responsibility = teamwork = fun = etc.

Actually, it was Maalik who hit the nail on the head for this thread.

" Mon 12:35AM Maalik
I think the point is being missed by a few here. The goal is to give groups who can't hold the station a reason to try their hand at Conquer the Station anyway as it is in the contesting not the holding that the game delivers fun to its players. It might be better if the disabling effects were shorter than in the OP, though."

That is a reasonable and achievable objective.

But yes endercp12, the stations are beta. No they should not be taken out. We'll just find something else to bitch about if they do.

1) Nobody has any right to expect their stored ships or goods to still be available at a station that has been retaken. I really don't care if you delete them, sell them or transfer ownership (except for ships which can't be transferred)
2) A mechanic should not be put in place that allows a single group large or small to make the potentially useful stations perpetually useless.
3) A better solution for a station that has been 'razed' as opposed to the time frame would be to require a series of recovery missions that take a group of say 4 an hour or two to complete in order to restore the station to operation.

Alloh, the stations have potential value. They do not have current value.

"frankly i really think that the devs should just pull the goddamn things until they are complete"

+1

Took the damn words right out of my mouth, Sera. Just kill the dammed things.
Jun 17, 2010 Aticephyr link
why take them out? they don't do much... but they are entertaining to take / defend / retake. they've had some good interactions, just not enough for those who don't try to hold them.

I smell whine.
Jun 17, 2010 Willis link
yeah.. take them out. Then we can have a moth full of people bitching about how they took them out. No matter what they do, everyone bitches. Its fucking annoying.

bah now youre bitch'n about bitch'n!
