Yes.
diqrtvpe, nuh uh.
If that were the explanation (and, indeed, implementation) of the gravatron [sic] beam, I would stop trying to pull away from the trough and use inertial mass and turbo thrust to oscillate over the through, and in the end break free by escalation, since solving the wave equation would be fairly simple. I'd still be a spatially confined target, but not as much of a sitting duck.
Not that quantum mechanics and general relativity seem to be, in this case, compatible. As you say, technobabble can be made to fit any convolution of ideas.
I say the beam creates a gravitational well that is fed by the engine of the targeted ship, but its force vector is collinear with and opposed to the inertial movement vector of the ship, using clever control systems technology, with the help of the new Xang Xi Automated Systems NCPPI controller. This induction of a generalized gravitational well requires high activation energy Ea, which is why it requires >500 eu on the side of the ship activating the beam weapon.
On a sidenote: Is this weapon insta-hit?

tosh: That's actually kinda what I was going for, as well, I just didn't elaborate that far because NPC cappies wouldn't do that. :P
Oh. Carry on, then ;P
Tosh, you just forgot that E=mc^2... so the amount of energy required to create a gravity well is really huge, due this energy should be converted to mass, since energy has no gravity.
More logical is Tarenty's final prop, an EMP projectile, similar to a self-propelled conc mine, unguided, detonating at contact, and able to stop cappie engines (or more!) for a TBD time.
This is not hijacking, its reasoning on original topic!

An EMP mine/flare is another suggestion entirely, alloh.
I say ditch the sciency realism stuff if a cappy-slower beam makes the game more fun.

Spedy, the last several posts explained how you could do both! Cappy-slower beams and sciency realism stuff! After all, this is ........... the FUTURE!
Alloh,
according to convened-upon (well, not-recently-contradicted) fandom technobabble, the method of propulsion used in Vendetta Online is the creation of a gravity well along the desired thrust vector. (I am aware of the problems w/r/t turning.)
Those gravity wells run off the power plants on our ships, which are probably really nifty, considering some 2000-odd years have passed.
So no, I did not forget it, on the contrary.
Mines are, per definition not self-propelled, by the way.

I was mostly yelling at Alloh for thread highjacking.
Still all for the slower-beam or whatever :D
