i agree with ladron
Finally, in order to facilitate this and other types of interdiction sorties, the wormhole turrets in Deneb, Eo, GR, and Betheshee should either be removed or severely nerfed. Part of the reason that we don't have very many people engaging in nationalist activities is that if you dare to stick your nose into enemy territory you will probably get insta-pwned by missile turrets. It's simply more fun if you can get a couple of guys and sneak into enemy space to wreck havoc for a while. Obviously the strike forces should remain as they are now, and should actively hunt down anyone who fires on one of the convoys.
My suggestion is remove the WH turrets or nerf to where high lvl players can get through. The stations should be so ridiculously armed that you die before the loading screen is finished (obviously exaggerating for humor). the sf would still work as it did before and you will have to jump through and bounce around the sectors to lose them; however, SF and turrets SHOULD be placed in areas where players are going to lvl up, mine, etc. (especially new players). This could be shown on the map as a NATION PROTECTED AREA (not monitored) for players.
these protected areas could be in just sectors with roids, or sporadic everywhere. So, if you are running and bouncing from the sf, you just might hit a sector with a turret and more sf. kind of like outposts i guess. i imagine it might be a little difficult to change the sectors the outposts are in from time to time? kind of like a patrolling/drifting outpost? just a thought.
i think an itani should not be able to dock at any serco station, period. nation stations should have a certain amount of faction points allowing people to dock. for example, a UIT pilot would have to earn the respect to dock at a certain itani station, so it might be a long flight until the next stop, and he might run into a serco pilot hauling ass through that can harm him. Certain stations require +200 while others require +800, obviously the stations with the +800 has more advanced nation supplies. if you are UIT pilot with +300 serco, a station with +500 wouldnt allow him in, it would be instakill. you cant dock at the station anyway, and it would prevent station camping.
also, a serco pilot with +300 wouldnt be able to dock, but obviously, the turrets wouldnt fire at him.
this is not something that should be thrown at the devs right now, we should all talk about it and see how we can make things work where we CAN go to other nations with 87% risk of dieing instead of 100%. (again, exaggerating for humor) and then if it all makes sense and is worked out, maybe we can get it with the faction redux. sweet.

Removing the turrets guarding the borders is not going to happen.
In any case they are not instant death either. In fact they are not that hard to run. It only takes a fast ship and some practice.

No, but the ones around Deneb at least should be nerfed.
I agree with the OP that defenses should be shifted away from wormholes and toward stations. Ideally all stations should have a few capgauss turrets in addition to their strike force, and stations in capital systems should be even more heavily defended. This would do a better job of protecting newbies anyway, while also opening up the possibility for extended legitimate nationalist RP. This is supposed to be an MMORPG, right?

The idea of moving the turrets to the stations themselves is one of the smarter ideas I've heard here in a long time.
My only concern: players who grief the botting sectors. Or moreover, players trying to grief the wormholes themselves.

back in the day you could cruise through, but you could never chill in a wh sector without the sf being all over you. that should not change.

the roid fields and mission sectors (some anyway) would be totally protected.

I think we're only talking about the serco/itami border right? Because any noobd botting anywhere near there Should expect trouble just as when they fly into grey.

Really? Are you still going on about this?
If a Serco infiltrates Itani space and shoots Itani pilots, he isn't "griefing", he's "playing the goddamn game".
That aside, it is definitely not feasible to camp a hostile wormhole; the strikeforce will quickly disrupt any such operation.

@ladron: I haven't "gone on" about any such thing prior to this one instance. And blah... 'grief' is a loaded word (was not intended as such). How about we change 'grief the X' to 'kill/harass newbs in X'? There we go.
Since I've never tried: do strike forces really disrupt wormhole camping? A good pilot can easily neutralize station strike forces (I've seen it happen)... I would figure the same would go for wormholes. If I'm wrong about this, awesome, otherwise we need to put a little more thought in here.

people really need to stop with this "think of the newbs" arguement when they don't have anything else to say. People are going to die they are by a war zone get over it.
That's a legit point peytros. I'm not arguing against it. I just don't want to make it too easy for someone to make a newbie's life utter hell. My concern was one to be noted, not one which blocks all possible progress.
except its always employed by people to appeal to others emotions instead of contribute to a logical conversation. Even if those boarder turrets are nerfed to get into sol II one still would have to go through 3 other sets of turrets and encounter more strike force and bots and find a newb to kill and have no where to dock.
what do you think of the station docking requirement ideas?
Im not much for rping a nationalist so I don't have much to comment about that idea armonia. But for sneaking into enemy space I think a new class of "black ops" ships that can cloak would be cool.
@peytros: wasn't my intention. I rarely play that angle, so kindly don't read it into my posts.
@Armonia: ehhhhh. The ideas seem pretty post-faction-redux, and as such I don't really have an opinion yet.

im sorry atice but when you use words like "my only concern" and "greif" its kinda hard to not read your posts like you are implying that.
heh. I'll do my best to make it read nicer if you'll try not to read the nasties into it :p.
I would like to see Deneb go grey : it should be a war zone. Pull the heavy itani defences back to Eo to mirror GR , two remote outpost stations for itani and serco in deneb, get the BS type missions spawning and running smoothly.
For that matter , a couple of conquerable stations in deneb ....
Ye jump that wh from Eo or GR , the shooting starts ......

Good suggestions. Anything that reinvigorates the Serco / Itani conflict has my vote.
As far as the newbies, I have to agree, Itan is safe enough. If they make it to Deneb or even Eo, they deserve a little more risk.
Armonia, I fully agree- or at least mostly agree with the docking requirements. That many Itani and Serco are POS with the other is obviously what I expect to be fixed with the faction stuff. They definitely should not be able to dock without extreme exception.
Also, I agree with landron and others that it should be possible to infiltrate the enemy nation and inflict casualties. Absofreakinglutely! THIS is the kind of mindset that I want to play VO with. I guarantee you allow this and nationalism lives. Perhaps this is something conquering the stations could allow for?

Wow, I actually agree with ecka here.
Also their should be some kind of mission that alerts newbies that the borders of nation space aren't always as safe as the inner core systems.

And I'm sold. Really sold.
The "Intro to the Universe" mission (intro #8 I think) could be easily modified for this purpose.
