what about the dev-avalons that were accidentally added, the 35shot 1 million damage launchers? now they were awesome.

the avalons first mentioned only effectivly did 6000 damage per second, you can do better than that with energy weapons, and you don't have to reload them.

I would restrict the use of Avalons to the following ships:

Ragnarok model line
Prometheus model line

By requiring a power grid of 26, and an S-port auxiliary power generator add-on that yields 3.

Further interesting modifications to the original design could be things like a targetting and tracking system (TTS), also S-port, which gives the avalon tracking (with abysmal turning rates), as long as the bomber has a lock on the capital ship (the target box must be within a certain cone around the ship's longitudinal axis, say 10-15°). This would allow the Prom to be a dive-bomber (so to speak) only, while the rag gets the niche of a long-range bomber which can stay a little behind. Low ordinance lifetime can take care of cowards.

This could be coupled with a dual firing mode, one that is purely dumbfire, and another that enables tracking. Has to be set before firing, cannot be altered in flight.

They could be made as a rare cap-ship drop only so they would be very limited in supply

i think they should be restricted to ragnaroks only, simply add a 6th port to it, extra large. The prom is plenty big, but they are already overpowered. I also like the idea of it being a capship drop, make it drop from tridents. Adding torpedo tubes to upgrade smaller less powerful vessels is already an established method. Though I would limit them to the serco, itani, and uit tridents only.

I guess with an extra large port you could make things like the capitol Gauss, and the BGTWKOA. Any of which if given 0 auto aim wouldn't be too uber on the rag, given the slow shot speed. And the obvious mass of the weapon. Hitting any player ship other than a loaded moth trying to ram you would be all but impossible.

Actually, have the moth trying to ram you might make it harder.

who knows, but its usefullness in pvp is nearly nil, sure you could pwn afk miners, but you can do that with anything better than training blasters. also the avalon's blast radius should be small, otherwise you could simply nuke whole fleets of fighters with one missile.

Nuking a whole fleet is in fact the point of avalons - Sheer rarity should prevent it from being abused as it would be too valuble to waste in most cases. <shrug>

The rag does come to mind as an appropriate platform but then you could also make a hog with only a single avalon port and nothing else - extremely expensive of course.

Considering the fact that the majority of the posters in this topic never have played VO with legit avalons, I don't think it's really possible to do any 'backseat' balancing. Put avalons back in game as they were, and balance from there.

I think the point is that we're trying to revamp avalons from the ground up. We need a legit anti-cappie torpedo weapon and the avalon has a cool name and a sweet explosion animation.
