I think it would be useful to be able to show the guild tag directly in chat without clicking, though incarnate's idea sounds like a nice addition to the game as well.
Inc wins the thread.
I like the idea. If it gets put in, it should be very clearly described in the tutorials, as it is not an intuitive thing to do, and newbies will likely never figure it out on their own (I'm pretty sure I've never clicked a name in chat). If they don't do the tutorial, or don't pay enough attention, then we get to mock them anyway, so it's cool. :)
Maybe also an /info command? To get the information of people who you see in chat? It'd be the same as clicking on someone's name... but without the mouse thing.
Atice you aren't looking to datamine at all I can tell :/
I'm a vim user... I hate mice as a general principal. What could I possibly be data mining that I couldn't get off the website?? Are you insane?
Yeah, mining out of the client would be kind of.. annoying. Possibly, but probably pointless compared to what one can scrape off the site.
Anyway, glad the feedback on the clickable thing is positive. I'll look at writing something up for it. It'll probably help for advising newbies too, since we can then see what their levels are and stuff, give better advice.

I'm for the Idea of guild tag in chat as long as the player has a choice of whether to show it or not, and has the choice whether to see others or not.

Actually, fuck the OI.
Inc's idea FTW.

diqrtvpe, I can't agree with you. I find it to be less intuitive for *us* to have clickable names, because we're not used to it. I'm used to right-clicking on something to get more info, I just know that does not work in VO (yet).
As for clickable: When you change focus to the chat console in space, your movement is blocked anyway... why not make the names clickable there, too?
As for the /info command, there would have to be such a thing anyway, to deliver the info when you click on the name. Therefore the question whether there is a direct command to use or not is, largely, irrelevant.

tosh: I get what you're saying, but nonetheless, in the over two years that I've been playing, I haven't once clicked on a name in chat. It is not part of the usual game paradigm, at least not that I'm aware of. Without a cue that you could get something from clicking them (maybe underlining the names only when the cursor is active? that would mean there was a change that draws attention to the names, and underlining clickable links is a well-known paradigm) it would remain a hidden Easter Egg until explained. There's already a lot of confusing stuff in VO that newbies don't catch onto all that quickly, I'm just advocating that this feature be well-explained in the tutorials.
um anyone that has ever played another MMO in their life knows that if you want char info you click on a name. vo is a pretty rare case where you have to type in commands
My apologies, I was not aware of that. This information makes Inc's idea even better! (though I still advocate it being clearly explained in the tutorials, just on principle!)
