AgY: You forgot to mention it takes time for a ship to get up to full speed and even more time when holding cargo. A good interceptor is a ship that can reach max speed the fastest.
5k armor - come on -
Screamer 3000 dmg
Jackhammer 2000 dmg
How should that work? Target turns around and the interceptor is toast? Most tradeships have at last one large port. 5k armor would make that thing a deathtrap.
Surbius: whats the point? I calced 700m and i know its realistic because i never got closer to the ship in question.
I know this calc is not taking reaction time and various other things into account.
But pls note 700m is a BEST CASE scenario. Usual is 1100-1500!

It takes around 18-20 seconds for an atlas mk3 to reach 200m/s from 0m/s without cargo/weapons but a battery. It takes about 17-18 seconds for a X-1 with 2 neuts and sunnie to reach 225m/s from 0m/s.
The point is these differences matter, if an interceptor has a max speed of 225m/s but can reach that speed in 10 seconds with weapons, the distance will be closed greatly against even an Atlas X that's carrying nothing.
Although ships with this great amount of thrust to reach max speed in 10 seconds with weapons then it would make some type of sense to reduce left, right, up, down, and back thrust directions.
EDIT: This type of 'interceptor' would act much like atmospheric aircraft act in the sense of all forward thrust and very little to no side/reverse thrust while in flight. This would start a new type of spacecraft and combat style that some people complain there is a lack of in VO. Essentially these ships compete on a level of their own but if the two styles of ships were to engage each other, the current ship type and an 'interceptor' type, they would both find it hard to effectively combat each other as one is moving too fast to properly react to the one that is highly agile but unable to chase. This is all theory though and would require testing on the test server if the devs wonder how well an all forward thrust ship would act in VO and in combat.

You want that ship to have a thrust of 300? :-)
This Thread is not about suggesting a entirely new ship and technique. Please make a new Thread if you want that.

Heh, sorry about that.
I don't really find the ship i suggested to be that unbalanced i think having a bit more thrust at the expensive of armor and ONLY being able to go get into grey space without being shot at by turrets isn't a horrible thing
how much does a centurion have?
Trader turns around............. and dies. Large port my foot, ou can dodge all that with no problems. Mines may be a nuisance but a good pirate can avoid that.
I just don't want such a ship to become a new SL that keeps ppl bitching in the corners amd i more frequently used for PvP than rattin

Azumi, all i know is that we need a ship.
And i tried to suggest one that is balanced.
Im really interested in a balanced ship and if the devs want to test it pls invite me. I would do the best i can to assure that this ship has only the amount of power it really needs.

Yeah, I get your point. Sadly I get the points you have made in the other posts as well and even if it irks me I agree.
The main problem with people like Agy is that they want "balanced" fighter that can dogfight, have 3 S ports and have top speed like no other ship in VO and if possible have infiniturbo too.
Nobody is thinking about role specific ships from a pirate point of view.
Everybody is looking at ship stats and capabilities from a PKer point of view.
His ideal ship wont have a cargo hold, why bother, we know he wants it to be faster and lighter then any other ship in VO so he can have the upper hand in fights and get PKs easier.
This has nothing to do with pirating and role specific ships for that purpose.

Bojan, agreed. That is specifically why I made this post:

I am interested in having interceptor and pirate ships. Having those two ships would add a very interesting dynamic to the game. The only problem is the pirates want something that is perfect for them, and to hell with the rest of the verse. No "interceptor" ship that has been proposed by us "care-bears" of the universe has been perfect. It has been balanced given its stats and role. If only the rats could stop complaining that "we don't know what it's like" and actually contribute to something useful (even if it isn't 100% what you want)... that would be nice.
I'm tired of AgY and the like shooting down everything that isn't precisely what they want. Azumi, FistOfRage, I want to hear more from you (that is if you want this dynamic added; if you don't, no harm no foul). Your ideas tend to be balanced and thought-out on a game-wide scale.
AgY, your ship idea here is a decent one. But it needs other ships to balance it, and it also needs to not be so damned perfect as a multi-role fighter. Give it 2x+ the weight you described (though more thrust to compensate for it), knock approx 2k off the armor, and knock a little bit (approx 0.5) off the spin torque so it isn't a dominant pvp fighter in all scenarios. It should probably also be a variant of the moud (with no cargo as requested), so that it's profile isn't impossible to target.

Atice the ship I have suggested has almost the exact same stats as the valk and people are saying it is unbalanced so does that mean that the valk itself is.
The problem is people who don't pirate really do have no idea what it is that pirates need bojan needs to stop making posts about how people are just looking for pks hey what is a valk for? killing stuff what is a pirate ship for? pirating stuff which usually involves blowing up the ship you are pirating to get its cargo. Infact having a bigger cargo hold attached to a ship is going to make it much more likely that someone just chooses to boom a moth insted of negotiate trade.
Right now Bojans intercept ship has NO purpose a single small port ship does not have to ability to do enough damage to stop a ship from jumpin let alone even pop a moth.
Having a pirate equivlant of the valk using the raptor platform really doesn't seem like it is unbalancing the game in anyway remeber that the raptor is bigger then the valk

I don't believe a pirate ship should be so similar to a valk. If it were, it would affect the realm of PvP too much. Please read my thread linked above; before you dismiss it, read it. I know I don't rat, but I chase plenty of non-trading ships... all the time. I know what its like to chase. I would imagine it would be easier to catch someone hauling 1000kg of cargo.... My point is that a pirate-valk is too multi-purpose.
A small single-port ship does do a lot of damage, if you put the right gun on it (granted, we need a couple more 18-grid guns, but for now, think widowmaker). I think such a ship would do better chasing non-cargo ships, which is why I just posted over on my thread a corvus intercepter that could do damage very easily to a trader. Of course, a single-port intercepter would be able to distract such an interceptor if it were hired to escort... etc.

I fail to see how it would affect pvp so much in the way you are describing. do you mean it would give the pirate players who are all kos an equal shot to compete with valks and proms? a pirate valk atm is a valk that pirates fly does that make the original valk much to multipurpose? It chases it kills and can survive a gangk in the proper hands. how would having another ship like it upset the so called balance of pvp in vendetta
RP wise I don't think the rats would have the tech or skill to build something as fracking awesome as the valk. Granted, I'm standing on shaky ground.
And for the most part I'm coming around to your point of view, as much as I hate to admit it.
The one thing that's bugging me though is you're talking about having a very good pvp and chase ship (multirole) available in grey only to those who consider themselves bad guys. The guys in grey with x1's had to bring them down from jallik or deneb... access to such a damned good ship right in the middle of the action just seems wrong to me. Especially given the 70m/s you have given the ship...
My arguments here are less solid than I would like, but I just can't get the nagging voice out of my head shouting "WRONG".

I am not really sure that we would want to have a ship that could survive it all pey. In reality the super pirate ship would have to flee from the law instead of taking the fight on. Right now the only thing I fly is the Rev C, and that is because it is a great PvP ship. Why is that? Because I see maybe one or two traders for every five hours I am online even though I run for them but see tons of combat ships. If a VPR arrives I think YES, finally something to do.
Pirates don't need new super ships, we need traders in grey. And once they are passing grey in bigger numbers it would be more interesting to have the ship Lecter suggested from a piracy pov.
This ship may have been presented with a different goal instead, namely that of allowing PK'ers to wreak havoc on grey instead. I am not opposed to them tearing newbs or traders apart. You don't need a Valk or Prom analogue to do that.

Not sure who you are or what youre doing but there are lots of traders.
But even a taur can outrun a valk with some jumps - so there no point in hunting any of them.
Example: After the jump thru the wh he is 1,7k away from your position and you have no chance to reach him before he jumps into some bogus sectors.

About driving more human traders into grey: Would increasing the number of NPC convoys in nation spaces decrease profits available to PC characters, hence driving them into grey?
@AgY: So use your brain (or a teammate) to track down where he might have gone. I have to track pirates in COMBAT ships (frack loaded taurs) all the goddamned time. No, it isn't easy, but if you know your prey (or your prey's type), it becomes a lot easier.
@Peytros
Dissing an old pirate who was roaming thru VO while you were still in grade school wont get you much credit.
IBGs, Valks, SVGs & Proms are Itani/Serco top of the line high tech military ships.
Military ships have their role in VO universe: to wage war.
In reality they cannot be matched by any lesser factions techs.
Devs stepped over that line only once, when they introduced Corvus Superlight a clear IBG rip-off with better thrust/spin torque then Itani original.
If we have it your way, It would be like Somali pirates making a high tech improved variant of US nuclear sub and using it for pirating.
