I was just curious about what people and the devs thought about this. Basically, it's so easy to get credits and faction right now, and yeah i know, that change is coming. But People are probably preparing for it anyway so it affects them as little as possible.
Everybody has everything, there is no climb or race anymore. The game as I remember it 4 years (i joined a while after release) was a bit more interesting. Now everything is mapped and databased, everyone is a millionaire or billionaire, We are universally accepted in space and we have all the weapons and ships at our disposal, war is meaningless as we all have seemingly unlimited resources stored. Sedina B-8 is the only place for pvp and now unconsentual pvp is no longer accepted by the community by large, most people are lazy about fighting. Granted, those last two can only be fixed by the community, but making us all "newbs" and starting out in this excessive universe would change things largely and I think for the good of things.
-Change the ores, Reset the ore contents and randomize them.
-Change the commodities, People have all of this mapped as well, there are no secrets anymore and unlimited resource is easy to come by. Reset this like the ores and kick start a new commercial frontier.
-Player stats, everything and money and stores and factions and guilds(when the new faction system comes in). This will restart the race and overall game frontier. People will reorganize and start fresh and begin their race for power and wealth. New people will spring up and new guilds. This would rejuvenate unconsentual pvp, people will begin to fight again for what they want outside of the border. Grey space may become dangerous again and maybe reintroduce npc pirates. And in the short term this will stimulate nation space for a while again.
-Grey faction, When the stronger more independent and lawless types venture in to grey, to the corvus capitol and become outlaws. This will help make grey more dangerous again. Also, with the loss of nation shelter and resource, they should gain with the more shady "corporations" as discussed elsewhere and the lawful types should not be able to have high grey corp standing. VPR can't get CVs and dock in XX etc while pirates grab Rev Cs and TPG atlases. But that is a rant for the faction system which has already been discussed.
I think we have too much control and wealth in the game. Wipe everything out and let the community restructure itself with more strict guidelines. Rediscover the game and the real beauty it had before. The real immersion and sense of adventure and frontier. When everyone wasn't rich and had it all. I say we look at this with an unbias view, forget all that we have and think about how fun the game could be. I have a massive amount of weapon stores and a massive amount of pks and wealth, I'd be willing to give it all up for the game to return to it's post release roots.

While the premise is a good one, the last thing I am going to do is agree to PAY someone to TAKE my progress away from me. I'm payed through March, and I'd be requesting a refund.

No Effin way...
I worked my ass off for my 3k Pks.
i can agree with wiping lots of money out of the game but only do it by say 50% or something, i know this is a video game and all that everything is completely artificial and i shoudn't care about it the slightest but i do because i put lots of work into it, doesn't mean i didn't have fun doing it tho :P
"People will reorganize" thats not true at all if say Itan is dismantled tomorrow nothing is going to stop us from gluing all back together especially since we have other ways of communicating than ingame.
Actually ignore what i said, this idea is awesome, but it should only be put to work after huge changes to the universe (faction redux), and only if the community accepts as a whole (a poll or something posted on the site and news about it mailed to everyone who is suscribed to the newsletter)

We've become lazy and everything is easy. And we expect it to be now. We expect everything to be handed to us. There is no more challenge to it now and nobody seems to care. So far people seem worried about losing their wealth and stores because then they would actually have to work for them again.
[edit] and i worked hard for my 6400 + but it's meaningless now, we have unlimited resources to fight.

A few years of leveling chars, standings with factions...,around 5000 pks... mentor badges...
I could give all that up for a completely new VO ( something GS has in its long term plans for the next 20 years of development).
If they can produce and implement now:
1. Decent and working faction system
2. Steady economy
3. nation specific ships and weapons (without all around available generic ships and weapons), new classes of ships and weapons included
4. multiplayer ships
5. guild owned capships and stations
6. universe expansion and exploration
7. akanese and unalighned/grey factions players can choose from start
8. alien race and systems
i would gladly start from 0 all over again without any remorse.

Speak for yourself, Mecha. I expect none of those things. I do, however, expect that if I hand somebody a ten dollar bill, I get what I paid him for. In this case, that was time spent making progress in a game. If they should reset things to zero, they've basically taken the money and run.
All I think we need for the moment is to wipe out what is in the game (the players and their wealth) and set us on a new start while they develop the game. Even if we do make things expensive, a lot of us have enough wealth not to care and enough charted to make it back easily.
[edit] it's a fact aramarth. Look around. It takes no effort to "earn" these things, your pvp skill is entirely different and does not rely on your stats.

instead of a straight wipe, why not just a percentage,
that way those who had a lot dont start at the same level as someone who had nothing
maybe a tax of some sort

but ..but... my cool trophy :'(
how is that fair, rejected?
There might be a time for this but I'm not sure if it's just yet. I'd like to see a little more of the coming "SOON" changes implemented before any sort of wipe is put into action. Down the road though, this may be the only course of action.
Terrible idea.
Instead of a straight wipe how about no wipe at all.
you people obsessed with making everything annoyingly hard need to find some other way to punish yourself like walking on hot coals or something.

I agree that this might be necessary and a good thing at a point where the game is about to go mega-public, large influx of players, that sort of thing. Maybe give everyone playing before that some sort of badge like alpha and beta and wipe the slate clean. But I also agree with Ghost, Bojan, and others that far more changes need to be made before such a thing would be reasonable.
While ideally I would support this move as I believe there are too many people (myself included) who have made gains (monetary, pk, faction, xp, etc) through the use of broken or poorly implemented game mechanics (stockpiling, noob-hunting, crack-botting, etc), I think a complete reset would create an unnecessarily unrealistic environment. As a new player who might enter the game at that time, I would find it peculiar, and perhaps even a little unsettling to find no "experienced" players in existence. Also, the prospect that this might happen to me as well might deter me from pursuing the game in any meaningful manner.
That said, I do support a reduction of certain aspects, or as Rejected offered, a percentage. The two main areas that I think would be best served by this are money and player kills, and in a way the two are related. For instance, having traders flying around with crazy pk stats is evidence of a broken system where money is too easy to gain, and death means nothing. Many traders get bored of trading after they've hit the 10 billion mark and then go and pvp over and over because they have the money to pay for this ships, and dying means nothing.
With the new system coming into effect, these people will still have this luxury largely in part because they profited via a system that new players will never have the opportunity to exploit.
There are other examples, and yes, I'm picking on traders, but in short, I think the only areas where there should be a reset is in areas that give experienced players an unfair residual advantage over new players. I think there is a need to keep a perceived "experienced" set of players in existence, while removing the advantages said players enjoy.

May I remind everyone that you actually already have a reset option? As far as I am aware yodaofborg has used it several times. Delete the character and make it again.
So it doesn't change everyone else and why would you care abut them anyway? We are not playing for the same goals after all, some like it easy, some like it hard. If you want it to be challenging, delete and recreate.
I do agree that we should have a complete reshuffle of ores and goods. Make the prospecting mission to a Mk II version and let people take it again. But do not destroy the players' characters. If peple want to do that, they have the tools

another observation on this matter.
Think I remember reading in one of Inc's posts how he is pushing new faction system for release by the end of last month. As usual, it did not happen but imho it means he is very close to implementing it.
New faction system will inevitably have a very big impact on current state of VO.
major faction standings will become mutually exclusive, some sub-factions too.
I am not sure does his new redux includes gray faction as well but that is now beside the point.
Fact is: lot of players will have to adapt and choose which POS/admire standings to keep or drop.
Some sort of reset could accompany this changes and my proposal is: money and stocked items.
Players money could be limited to max 5 mil credits and stocked items to 10000 cu overall.
Edit: the more I think about this, the more i am certain that it would help stop lot of players who already decided to CHEAT THE SYSTEM and stock up on everything their all universe POS enables them now before new faction system is in place (serco stockpiling thousands of valkyries, UIT stockpiling everything from all nations etc.)

Problem with percentage is that with the broken money system it means the billionaires still have lots of cash even after losing a hefty percentage and the people that exploited the game less will get a huge cut.
You can't compromise things like this and expect it to work or be fair. that's why a clean wipe will level the field entirely. We won't have to worry about being disadvantaged against other players. Now with that in mind, naturally more experienced players are going to be "better" which creates the proper advantage over others. The money system is so screwed up right now it's hard to say who actually possesses the skills to make money without cheating the system. Raising ship prices was not the answer in this. It may have been a good step in the direction for future economy though I will definitely agree. But if there was a full wipe with the changes (like i said in the op, i listed changes)how many of the wealthy players would be able to make half of that back or much at all. I have 207 million credits ingame and 6400+ player kills, 14/14/12/14/11 license levels. Also, i fronted the 30 mill to fix my faction. Very easy. How many people like myself included, would be able to sit in b-8 all day and shoot at each other?
[edit] I agree with bojan, not a percentage but a flat amount.

Wiping everything could (and did) work when people weren't paying for their characters, but seems downright silly now.
I don't understand why a percent-based drop to stats makes sense to anyone, but I can't make any sense of it.
Come to think of it, none of this thread makes any sense to me.
First you have someone suggesting that we kill all the stats of all the paying customers, which doesn't make sense because you've got hundreds of newbs that like their stats the way they are and would raise a huge stink if they went away for every person that thinks a reset is a good idea.
Then you have the newbs raising a preemptive stink over losing their stats, which doesn't make any sense because it's not like the money paid GS was so that they got stats. It was so that they could have fun, and VO is pretty much unique in that a players stats have very little effect on how much fun you can have.
And then you have the newbs that apparently feel guilty for having better stats than any new newb would be able to get in the same amount of time, so they suggest a percent-wise dip to some numbers, which again makes zero sense. If you feel guilty about having a particularly fancy character as a result of your exploitation and abuse of the differences in the game over the months that you've played, delete your character and move on. It's not like the stats have anything to do with how long you've played the game, so you're still getting an advantage simply from knowing how to turn off /roll and shit like that.
Moral of the story: Syn sucks.

I'm all in into randoming stuff ie. on weekly basis (yay discovery!) but wipe won't change anything, after couple months u will be in the same place and then wipe again ?
BOOOOOOORING, grind again, wipe, grind again, wipe and so on.
But i do agree, that there is lack of endgame in vo, because what you can do now:
1. PVP
2. Farm money
3. Farm standings
4. Farm licenses (is there anything new after 10/10/10 ?)
5 ???
There must be something to do after you "max out", simply some nice and deep endgame content. Since vo was designed and developped a lot changed in perspective of avarange gamer. Couple years ago ppl enjoyed mindless grinding be it stats/pvp but now ppl expect something more than it.
Look at other games if you want example, ppl who enjoy pve go to WoW and one of it 3847283489723 clones and for real endgame pvp there are games like EVE and there is vo problem, lack of anykind of endgame content. And as i enjoy playing VO for now (still new here) i've already noticed lack of it and getting quite bored (nothing to do beside pvp really).
