I'd be up for a money wipe (with a cap, not a %) accompanied by a reshuffle of ores and goods. I think that would hanlde the problem nicely, without getting rid of the things people are most attached to (for vets, PKs and special widgets/ships, for nubs, their valuable licenses!). I can't imagine what it would be like if, after spending days botting for my combat 8, it got reset and I had to work all over again for that valk.
Also maybe disband all guilds, but not cause that would help anything, just so that we get rid of inactive ones

"Moral of the story: Syn sucks."
well...yes but hardly the thread for that
You're just a frustrated pirate Mecha. Maybe you and Genka should ask your boss to spend less money on PR and more on training... :P
Back on topic:
I agree that wiping XP and all factions would be a bad idea. I think that the new faction system will probably remedy any existing faction advantages (ie. Serco having POS Itani and Serco standing, and vice versa). Money, either way, complete or capped wipe, would be a good idea, and probably the only one that would make a proper difference to the game.

i think there is a less violent way to get rid of money.
introduce a few unique items, that cost 500 million to 1 billion credits each (or whatever is the appropriate amount).
the items wont do anything, but they will be awesome status symbols.. and people will buy them, just like people buy swarovski and armani and rolex.
not only will it be a status symbol, it will be a memento of the 'old VO, circa 2008', when people could afford that sort of thing.
but on top of that, you could make them 'for a limited time only'. that would increase the 'memento' factor, the 'status' factor, i mean, everything. nothing says 'im l33ter than you' like having some unique item that was only around for a short time period, that is also incredibly expensive.

Don't need training if your guild's not full of newbs...
Something like an economic crash would be an interesting way to level the playing field as long as it doesn't make everyone completely destitute and have to start from scratch. However, it should be noted that not everyone who has played VO for years is a bajillionaire nor is everyone with a healthy bank account someone who has played for years. In the later case, a fair amount of work was involved in making those credits and that work shouldn't be wiped out too casually. I suspect stations and cap ships will start to suck the credits out of the wealthier players in the end anyway.
Agreed VO lacks an endgame but I believe that will change as the VO 'verse becomes more dynamic, economically and politically, and players actions (PvP and trade) begin to have a direct effect on availability and prices of ships/weapons. Trade empires could be built and then laid low by shrewd competition or by more nefarious tactics such as hiring mercs/pirates to hi-jack the competition's cargo. Also, player-owned stations and cap ships could be seen as part of the endgame - acquiring and than maintaining/upgrading/protecting such larg-scale investments would be a game in and of itself. (As you can see, I am anxiously awaiting these changes.)

Since I am pretty new here and therefore I am not that bored like Touriaus is, I will close both accounts I pay for if/when this is reality.
Incarnate, please be kind and let us know in advance of such a step. Thank you.

this won't ever happen so i wouldn't worry about it Infinitis
this would be like here is a gun you can kill yourself with (currently players able to delete and recreate the same characters) and then forcing them to use it by a mandatory reset. You would do nothing but loose players if that was the case.
Incarnate has said numerous times that such a thing will never, ever happen.
That said, Mecha, if you and the other people who want this want to get together and have a little reset for yourselves, by all means, we can relabel the "Delete Character" button to "Drink Koolaid" and you all can go have fun.
But don't drag the rest of us into it.

I thought this game was anti-grind...
No thank you on resetting everyone back to "zero". There are a good number of new players in the game, me included, that would not be very happy about this, and I pretty sure you have folks that have been around for quite a while from what I've read here that would not be very happy about this. I have to agree with those that say, if you are bored or feel bad about having too much because you exploited something from an older version of VO, delete your character and/or create a new one.
I might be for resetting roids and commodity locations, but there again, you have folks that have worked hard to build up a database for trading and mining who might be just as ticked off as those who would be if your reset everything to zero. I am for adding some really neat status symbol items that you could buy for a chunk of change as anazi suggested.
Doubt Incarnate would let a complete wipe happen, but if it did, I would strongly consider canceling my sub and taking my $$$$ elsewhere.

What a stupid idea!
Just to be clear...the day that happens is the day GS loses the $20 per month I'm paying them...

Like Miharu says, I'm not going to be resetting player money.
I will be giving you more to spend it on, and there might also be some potential gameplay money sinks that have inherent "risk" (which would be explained beforehand). But I won't artificially nuke people's funds.
If, however, a special group of super-affluent want to come forward to me voluntarily and say, hey, we're willing to give up most of our money (or some such), I'll be happy to accommodate (and appreciative). But I will only do this for those who volunteer to me (create a separate thread for this, if interested).
Doing it across the board is too nasty to any who really worked hard for their funds. And basically, "advancement" in some form is one of the few metrics of reward for time expended in a game like this, I'm not going to wipe that all away.

Since it seems the hyper inflated currency is an issue what about something like this?
New form of currency with a rather steep exchange rate. Payouts in the old inflated currency will be halted in favor of rewards in a newer more scarce form of money. The old system will still be viable as it can still purchase ships and commodities however once spent the old credits are gone for good. Could also give the old currency perks like allowing the purchase of special and or expensive items while disallowing the purchase of those specials with the new money.
If say capital ship / station ownership was implemented and made only possible via some form of manufacturing then those who happen to have large sums of the old currency saved up would be allowed to purchase capital ships / stations ready made instead of taking the time to build them.

Ok Mecha, as the player with probably the most money and possibly the highest aggregate levels I feel obliged to make some response, since I feel that your initial suggestion was aimed at players who may be in or attracted to TGFT.
Financially, things may well balance out of their own accord . Bear in mind that some 4 billion cr of players money has been disbursed at Nation Wars and other events. ( I do keep reasonably accurate records of donations, that money is ring fenced ) The recent changes mean that the rate of capital accumulation will reduce, and Nation Wars will be paid for from existing funds. I thus expect to see a reducing personal bank balance over a period of time.
As regards levels, they mean little in gameplay terms after about 10. We all know they have no effect on PVP, and little effect on PVE, have a chat with a passing queen. What they do show is that some players feel that investing time playing VO is worthwhile in the long run. That may well show new players that there are folk who consider VO to be more than ephemeral.
A reset is essentially pointless. The same group of players would end up with cash, levels and resources. Why? Quite simply because they would commit the time and effort to ensure that was the case. Wealth is not luck: it is the mindset that makes it so.
Perhaps the original suggestion was a personal shot across the bows ; there have been many. I am old and have an industrial lifestyle . I suspect nature will reset my levels long before the devs do .....

The only time you EVER do a player wipe (be it stats or the whole file) is after a HUGE change has been added in (rebuild the faction system, economy, and pretty much everything), otherwise you are robbing the better players of their equipment. Not only that, but it won't change anything as far as pvp is concerned; the skilled will still own the newbies, even if its a bus fight with gov plasmas.
A game wipe will not accomplish what you are wishing for.
1. New character does not equal noob. I can start a new character right now from scratch, with no assistance, and be at practically any level and/or any set of equipment I desire in hours to days. Even if it was hard to level or get equipment, what is the point? Everything has been done, and doing it again will not be as fun as doing it the first time.
2. MMORPG live and die by the degree that players feel invested. Levels, credits, property, etc... are the things that tie a player to a game. VO is already a significant failure in this category. Your idea would take one of VO's greatest and most glaring failures, and magnify it to it's greatest extreme. I can go so far as to argue, that your idea is not that bad, because VO has already failed so greatly in this category, that it wouldn't be much worse.
In order to get back the feeling of newness and noobishness and exploration and all those things that made the game fun the first time, the devs will have to constantly invent new spaces to explore, new trinkets to chase, and new challenges to face. Otherwise, it is just more of the same.
Wipe the game or don't, and I will not not care either way. From my perspective, it is already a blank slate, that can not be written on.

Levels, equipment prices, and the economy are currently being tweaked so that eventually the issue Roda described will be resolved.
VO hasn't "failed", because the things Roda listed have not been completed yet. It is a work in progress. I guess that one could say that they have failed to complete these things so far.
Guild has already stated, many times, that VO will never be completed. They didn't mean because of "Soon", but because they have every intention to add new space, new trinkets, and new challenges. The tools they recently implemented to allow them to build and tweak new items demonstrate clear evidence of this.
The Suggestions forum and the PCC allow players to "write on this slate" in a way that few other games allow.
Lastly, Incarnate just posted in this thread yesterday that there will be no monetary reset and no loss of advancement.

I did not say that VO failed. I said that VO was a significant failure in a category. Many games try to succeed in many categories at once, and admittedly VO has succeeded in many regards. The question here is, should not an element that is considered primary by many MMORPG game experts, be the area of greatest focus?
While a server reset would not have the greatest of impact on myself, I do feel certain that a server reset would totally annihilate what success VO has had in this category with other players.
I feel that the objectives presented supporting the idea of a server reset can be best served in other ways. Ways that increase players interest in the game, rather than threaten it. I like the idea of doing things that are new as much as the next guy, but wiping the server doesn't make it new. If we had to do certain things when we where new, then there should be things we have to do now, that are just as challenging. A character should never feel like he is "done".
