CtC and a flaw in design

Just heard about what seems to me to be an obvious design flaw that needs repaired or otherwise rectified as quickly as possible.

Two factions run up against each other in the CtC runs. One grabs the special load with a moth and tries to run. Enemies form up on the moth and start attack. Suddenly, it disappears. Reason: The player logged off to prevent getting destroyed. He/she comes back online a while later, still holding the xith, and makes his/her way back to the home station.

Considering things such as CtC are meant to be a challenge of flight battles, it seems a flaw to allow this to continue without either shutting the mission down completely due to abuse or fixing it so the abuse cannot happen. I've also read at least one opinion saying that this is not the only big event that has such issues. Don't know what else, but again it seems that there should be a way to fix such abuses.

Such ideas would include:

1. Create a flag for "under attack" or "in combat". If you're in combat, you cannot log off until you are sufficiently safe again such as entering a sector and remaining without further damage for 10 seconds.

2. If a vessel is carrying a specially flagged mission cargo such as the special xith, the cargo is auto-jettison left behind when the pilot attempts to log off.

3. If a vessel carrying such specific-to-event cargo as xith tries to log off, it self-destructs instead. (Okay, over the top. Still, I think this can be justified for the first month.)

4...

Too tired to think of more. Can't say I've been playing the last couple weeks, but I thought this deserved a bump of attention even if it's not a new thought. To me this is a major design flaw in what most consider a "PvP game".

CtC cargo does not stick to your inventory when you log out. In the event a player attempts to log out in space while holding such cargo their ship disappears but the CtC cargo is dropped at the spot where they logged allowing he pursuers to pick up the undefended xith.

lol. Obvious design flaws in original post.

I have a suggestion for the CtC, it should give the location of the current bearer(s) of the special Xith and shall not disappear until it get delivered.

WTF? No. If you get away, you get away. No magic localizators.

If that were true, iry, people wouldn't be do it. ITAN is doing it successfully.

Why don't you test it yourself?

Mainly because I'm currently banned by my wife. In fact I'm wondering why I even pay the monthly at this point. The bill collectors started calling way too often and I took a stupid $500 a month job because I couldn't replace the $3000 a month one I had back in October of 07.

So there you have it. Ask a stupid question, get the truth.

^---- Right here, because Lecter was too slow.

WTF are you whining for, then, 'pescador? Go fish.

I swear sometimes these forums turn into a crybaby whine-for-all.

Look, if this is an actual bug or exploit, we're all ears. However, we have been unable to replicate it, or (thus far) find anyone else who can confirm its existence. If someone can tell us the conditions under which it's possible to log off and not drop your CtC cargo automatically, we'll fix it as quickly as possible.

Incarnate, the point was he just thought of a possible exploit, he didn't actually test it because he can't log in right now.

If there's an exploit, it'll be reported some way or another.

Just thought I'd bring it up since I did see it being complained about by more than a few pilots. Since apparently it nor I am "important" to the game and since I need to save money anyway, see ya.

Too tired to think of more.

Thank God.

Anyway, a number of us have previously used alternate accounts to run a moth (or several) to hold CtC cargo, sometimes for several days. However, this isn't the same as what the OP claims--if you log off, the xith is jettisoned and left behind.

Sheesh, mpescador, we talked about it at yesterday's dev meeting, and spent time trying to replicate the problem. We clearly aren't ignoring you. But we cannot fix a problem that we can't reproduce or otherwise debug, and it doesn't help that no one else seems aware of the issue.

Slime: You were the person he said was able to make this happen. Do you have any idea what he's talking about?

I was in a Behemoth XC right outside Itani space with a hold full of CTC xith, and vardonx showed up. I was being defended by a couple people, but I knew that an XC's armour is paper if I let anything shoot it for more than 2 seconds, so I started the logoff sequence. I logged off successfully, and waited a few minutes for vardonx to leave (he was in a Valkyrie, not the best ship for picking up 200cu of cargo). I logged back on to find most of the Xith still there; my guildmate had carried off as much as she could after I logged off.

The cargo was in my hold when I logged off, but when I logged back on it was a few meters away from me. Any enemy could've taken the cargo in the few minutes when it was in space, but they didn't.

It sounds as though someone may have been confused about your cargo "vanishing", simply because you did. At any rate, unless someone can give me more evidence of an actual bug, I'm not going to worry about this further.

It's not a flaw, slime is doing what is called creative use of game mechanics..

Indeed Incarnate. Sorry that your time was wasted. :(
