not really sircamps,
if you want to be able to pump up your ship, then you need to pay a price. imagine arcanum without having to need to put in the technologist skill. like repair and all. im pretty sure that it would only be a powergamer option. If you want to kitt your ship, then, expect to be refrained from something else. Each advantage has its price. That is the way of a RPG.
What I was stating was that if you let people make fully customizable ships from every part. then the network traffic would increase exponentially. in stead of just having to load a couple of meshes, they would have got to load all the meshes plus the customizable meshes plus any other additions.
the same works now for a triple flare ship, if you used a tripple flare valk or a 1 tach, 1 grav and 1 gauss valk. then the traffic that the last one will be increased. Maybe not tha tmuch, but it will count if you have 1000 th and 1000thj of options.
cheers

The RPGish elements sound good, but the mechanics skill sort of things make me uneasy. One of the things that sets Vendetta apart from other MMORPG's is that it rewards skill and intelligence instead of how much time you spend on the game. In a fight, a complete newbie with a lot of talent could kill any of the vets. That's part of what makes the game exciting, so we should be wary of allowing some of the RPG'ish elements to go too far in replacing the skill factor in the game. Just a word of caution.
Yes pavan, you are semi right.
But the rewardings shouldnt be overpowering, just a very slight increase and even a chance of it having a bad effect if done incorrectly.
fior instance if you succeed = a rocket has a +1 to prox detonation, if you fail : - 2 to prox det. Besides, for mechanics, I cant envision a way of putting in the real skill. For flying yes, but for mechanics, not really.
So ll in all, if you shoot 1 rocket that is altered or not, it wouldnt give that much a difference, it would maybe only decide between 2 vets fighting, but otherwise no.
Besides, I only envision it as a little reward for people that are playing the game extensively. It is maybe not really worth the effort, but it may be an incencitive to continue on with a mission and bring it to a worthy end.

I'll agree there.
I think what you're saying is that if a pilot is a technician/mechanic, his craft will have a slight edge over, say, space farmers/miners?

yes, exactly

OK..... I'll go for that. But as long as all the pilots have the ability to modify their ships. Because that's what Vendetta is, it reward skill and logical thinking instead of implementing artificial skill factors into the game.
mmmhhh,
but if you do do that, then if the job is done wrong, it will have a detrimental effect? If so, then I can concur, if it doesnt have a detrimental effect, then i dont concur.

Well, consider a "wrong" loadout. Heavy engine + light battery, or even heavy engine + free battery. You'll be without boosting power and get killed really quickly.
The sort of thinking that Vendetta promotes is called common sense. Couple a high-demand engine with a low-output battery and you're screwed.
The RPG element will perhaps allow a type of pilot to tweak a couple more m/s out of his engine, but not prevent others from coupling engines with batteries.

naturally not. Any pilot would be able to choose to put in a heavy batt together with a heavy engine or a light engine with a heavy batt. It will just have the abilities that they say. Like now.
But a pro, will be able to like you said, in stead of having a drainage of 65 obtaining a drainage of 60. for instance. Letting a weapon fire at a pace of 0.70 in stead of 0.75. and things like that. Naturally, the disadvantage will be that the time for attaining new equipment will rise"need to study longer to attaign the licence ?" , or will be more expensive or ...

Ah, I agree.
The disadvantage, like you said, would be the time spent getting the license. Or I'd just propose that you get x amount of skill points for completing missions that you could spend on anything.
Joe may spend it on increasing his gravitron aim to that of above the gauss aimbot (weapons skills), whereas Bob might spend it all on engine expertise, and be able to boost to 215 m/s and coast at 70 m/s.
