Enough with the spam, Surb.
LOL... somehow I think, Mr. Ranger isn't gonna like that, Yogi. (This was in reference to Surbius)
[Flamewar Rating 1]
[ ] Hilarious

[x] Poor

Commentary :
This flamewar's only redeeming quality is the ninnified Phoenix Wright image.
Try harder next time.
EDIT: The addition of a Domo-kun counter-image has made this flamewar slightly less hard on the mind of the reader.

Gotta say the Domo-kun was the high point of the thread for me too.
Though what really makes it work is the quizzical and kinda unimpressed look of the... gopher? (I think sometimes that is referred to as an innocent look... not sure. I no longer recognize innocence as a valid concept.)

Yarrr. We aim to please... and explode.
If you really dislike what comes from IRC, but love the functionality, here's a handy bind I created and tested, and am very satisfied with it. I'll break it in lines so you can see clearly what it does
unignore IRC
msg IRC active players
wait 0.5 "ignore IRC"
I call it the APL bind and together it looks like this:
alias apl "unignore IRC; msg IRC 'active players'; wait 5.0 'ignore IRC'"
You type it in, bind it to whichever key, and then /ignore IRC.
So you're "safe" from IRC itself, and when you want to see the APL you activate the command; the 5-second period can be tweaked (mine's not the fastest connection around), but I must add than in all the time I used an IRC chat line never slipped in while the bot was unignored.

You replied in the wrong thread Jex... the IRC thread is over there --->
This thread reserved for NINNIES only.

So what am I, roadkill?
Don't answer that!

i think that my favourite quote of all time would have to be:
Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life...
it's funny, it's thought provoking, and it makes you want to help someone by setting them on fire.
thanks for asking, and have a great night.

Wha'd I miss?
Oh, and WWL: You don't win! Eliminating all the useless guilds should still be done regardless of whther or not we can see them! But, yeah, hiding guild affiliation goes hand in-hand with Alamar's "Immersion" thread, if only the Search function of these forums would find it.
Hows about we get a better forum board system, eh? I mean, come ON.

Besides that, please just shut the fuck up, all of you.
Don't like IRC? Ignore it.
Don't like /100? Leave it.
Don't like a particular player/character? Ignore, ignore ignore.
Besides, who decides what a "chat bot" is? What if a bot provides other services? What if I simply relay my errors.log to a website so people can read the chat?
Can we stop the idiotic flamewar and get back to the game now, please?

Ignore is not a solution. The bots have to go.
Ignore is not a solution. The bots have to go.
yes it is tumble.
What about "Banning is not the solution, ignore tumble"?
Tumble, chatbots are there because the operating system can read the errors.log and pipe it into IRC. The operating system(and it doesn't matter which) can also send keystrokes to VO so that the chatbot can type into the chat.
So, how do you propose to fix this? Ban the bots and have new accounts sprout up with them(It would take too much manpower to constantly ban new bot accounts. You might say IP ban, but IP's are also trivial to change)? Remove the errors.log and lose one of the most valuable sources for debugging and complaints about other players? Or perhaps make it so VO doesn't accept any keystrokes of any sort[1]? Or maybe haxxor the world and prevent the operating system from sending keystrokes to applications?
It's all well and fine that you're thumping your little podium for the removal of some very useful things, but have you ever thought about how absolutely impossible it is to implement? Maybe option four sounds realistic to you, but you just look like a loony to everyone else.
Oh, and for good measure: Ninny.
[1](Three keys and a Lua script is you really need to chat. Specifically, one key represents 0, one key represents 1, and the other is enter. The Lua script would decode the binary and then pipe it off. Fun stuff. Also, playing with only three keys would suck.)

Fumble:
alias STFU "ignore IRC"
bind ENTER STFU
Address the topic, or don't post. Please.
Actually, I should rephrase a little. I don't have much of a problem with the other bots in the game (#sigma, O'Malley, etc) but the IRC bot is very public and very active in game, and it shouldn't be. There is no reason to allow people, some of them not even ACTIVE in game, to be able to chat ingame. Keep the IRC channel, lurk all you want, just don't allow it to monitor or chat to the in game chat channels. They're for players who are PLAYING the game, not for flame griefers to camp and wait to pounce on any comment they don't like.
The chat bots do not belong in VO. They only increase the number of flames an exacerbate issues that might otherwise fade away, all the time not adding anything positive to the game.
You want to chat to ingame players, LOG IN.

look, IRC and many others exist because they can.
whether or not i am going to log into the game or the IRC channel doesnt matter since you'll eventually say something deserving of mockery, or do something that makes you look... well, like you; which i'll still make fun of your actions.
quit complaining and be a man for once.
you have started this thread to complain about how people make fun of you while watching the chat from IRC. to tell you the truth, they'll do it while ingame too.
in short, your complaint would have been viable, but it got interrupted by your incessive lameness.
