That would be an awesome effect, gravity, but I have no idea how it would be implemented.
As for heating roids up, I believe the devs should throw in some kind of punishment, so that people don't mine roids to the point where they are virtually un-minable for a very very long time.
As we do have limited resources in this universe, we should really consider making the resources a little harder to get. One way we could do this is by adding an explosion temperature to each type of ore.
Lets just say that a roid is 40% ferric and 60% heliocene. Lets also say that heliocene is known to explode (or vaporize) at or above 800K, and ferric at 1200. The point of this can also prohibit any body from single handedly bringing a roid above a ceratin temp on their own. A repair buddy must be with you and constantly going back and forth to repair you, and/or shuttle ore.

or......
Make the energy required to mine a roid be a function of it's temp.
The hotter it gets, the more energy needed to mine it.

I don't really see why though. hot roids get notoriously slow to mine as it is anyway. Why do you really want to add any other hardships?
If with the new economic system you also get the hive that starts throwing assaults on problematic miners...

no Zed, not in the pee-pool systems.
One hell of a bump!
Zed, have you even been paying attention? By heating 'roids, you actually make it faster getting your target ore.
/me can't wait for the new econ and new ore distribution as a way of making roid heating something that actually impacts the game
teh fun!
teh fun!
They could always just make it realistic?? i mean wouldn't that make more sense??
Make it so the roids eventually disappear. I mean your taking matter out of it eventually there will be none left right. Just make it so that roids slowly get used up and slowly gain minerals back into them as they collect it while floating around space.
The basic principle of this would be that asteroids slowly increase the amount of elements they have in them say it starts with 200 Carbon that will slowly increase say every hour by a set amount. Obviously the rarer ore's would increase slower than common ones. But if you mine an astoroid till there is no ore in it, then it crumbles and is destroyed This brings some interesting things into mining.
Make it so a destroyed asteroid will respawn but maybe takes a week to come back as a small roid with 20 Ore in it. This makes miners careful not to just AFK mine since they dont want to destroy the asteroid and have to wait a week for it to start filling up again. Secondly that will make miners move around more since they don't want to destroy there asteroids.
It might even make it so some miners might be found in grey space but that might be too much to ask :P Mining seems like it is underused in this game atm tbh there needs to be more uses of ore than just money since trade runs are often quicker and more lucrative
*EDIT* btw this is not meant to replace heating roids I think they should still heat up just make it that they also have a set amount of ore that slowly increases

Nope, roids are a fixed item. They could be otherwise, but they won't be. It's ovah.
At the very least, rock-based roids should glow a nice incandescent red while ice chunks should have a cloud of vapor around them.
I still wish they'd explode at some point. If only to take out afk miners.

Yea we will just have to wait and see i guess. It would be easier if they where a fixed amount but if there not going to do that then im not sure how to make it effective
As 'roids heat up to ridiculous amounts, it should attract Hivies in the system to see who's screwin' with their lunch.
lol yea it should mynt
"I guess people really just do not care about mining because, lets be honest, it's boring as hell!"

being able to deploy multiple but slow mining drones in a sector could be fun. you'd end up having to chase hive bots away who'd be competing for your rocks/drone cargo.
that's a cool idea uc. They would have to be expensive as hell though... Automatic mining droids would not only get a lot more ore out into the universe, but it would heat all the rocks to ridiculous numbers.
you'd still have to haul the cargo back.
/me would get a gun that heated roids, so when dogfighting he could shoot the roid behind them and heat it up, damaging their ship... but then they might figure it out, and purposely take that shot on their ship to prevent that roid form heating...
Nah that wouldn't work. Nice try tho.
The whole concept behind this thread is really just in general a mining suggestion. Asteroids and rocks the way they are are okay, but they could be so much more interesting. They should get hot and heat up to a prime temperature for mining ore, (if the way we mine ore is altered so that certain ores are more efficiently mined at different temperatures). Say ferric is best mined at 32K, Carbon at 20K, dentric at like 400K, Heliocene at like 1200K... etc.
