consequences for dying = good
space quake mentality = bad, but doesn't need to be emilenated enteirly
don't disable controles during the countdown, or people will just use the logoput command instead (it allows turbo provided you activate turbo before you activate the counter).
/explode needs to be more of an option than logout because logout breaks game realisam more than /explode does.
and finaly: a more realistic death modle is something that VO needs on several levels (RP, making pirating worthwhile, fixing the ecconamy, etc.) i believe a number of threads exist debating the merets of various death modles.
my point is this: eliminating the explot and discouraging the tactic are one in the same, if it is only done on rare ocasions or by one or two players than there is no exploit. just like backroling, it's only a bad thing if enough people do it on a regular basis, otherwise it's just another tactic.

Lord Q:
"don't disable controles during the countdown, or people will just use the logoput command instead (it allows turbo provided you activate turbo before you activate the counter)."
I tried that last night, and it didn't work - if you're turboing, the logoff countdown timer is aborted immediately (perhaps if you're not at full turbo speed?)
In any case, If you could safely get to full turbo speed, it's not likely you're in a position where you need to /explode or logout to avoid death.
And if logoff is an issue, just make that harder to do too (eliminate turbo?)
I think that logging off would still be harder anyway, as bumping your controls will abort, whereas the suggested /explode countdown would simply disable them? (am I reading that right?) so it would only be aborted if you wanted it to be.
