lose the connection between sol 2 and new and make a connection between that system and geira and deneb in stead. Especially since there is no connection between a really grey standalone sector with itan.
Then lose the connection between new and deneb and make it connect in stead with cantus and arta caelastis. While losing the connection between ukari and arta.
Although serco is still way more vulnerable from greyincursions then itani is. Which might have hteir own consequences...

"So we need to consider what to do in the meantime. And I think artificial methods of shrinking the universe are in order."
No we don't. The universe is fine; there is no need to change it, ESPECIALLY if it's going to be a temporary 'fix' to the playerbase issue, because that then entails changing it BACK again at some later time, making not one, but TWO alterations of the universe pointless in the end.
The transport idea was for CONTENT, not for fast travel. Faster travel is not needed. Get in a cent II, valk or hornet and you can get from one side of the universe to the other in no less than 15-20 minutes. 15-20 minutes is not going to kill you, especially considering you're crossing the universe in that time. Space travel is SUPPOSED to be long.
Chikira:
No. HELL NO.
destroying storyline continuity = bad
not to mention, what you're really doing is further MINIMIZING player interaction ba adding MORE systems and MORE routes! You're even reducing the probability and occurance of playerbase 'hot spots' in the process! is that what we want? HELL NO!
By far, the best solution in this thread has been the idea of a charter transport vessel(s) to run the systems, and this isn't even a solution to the problem proposed at the start of the thread.
The reason nobody goes anywhere but Sedina/Odia to interact is the lack of CONTENT elsewhere. Transports would put content all the way around the universe, and make chokepoints such as Deneb, Edras, Ukari, Helios, etc... as well as all the nation capitols places to be (if by my design)
Part of getting somewhere should be the journey. Without the journey, you have less interaction, both with players and the environment, and consequently, less fun. Less fun, because you run out of things to do. Less fun, because there's no longer a risk or effort to gain in long journeys. Less fun, because there's less danger, and less universe to traverse. Less fun, because tracking or following other players in that labyrinth would be virtually impossible.
Guild knew what they were doing when they designed the universe map. It's fine, and affords optimal use of the game given the circumstances. What needs to be adjusted are the circumstances - the content, the events, the locations, the playerbase (granted, a long-term goal) - NOT the map; not the universe.
For the sake of Content and ease/entertainment of travel, go with the transports.

Why don't you tell us how you really feel Cunjo?
I think a chop up of the galaxy is a great idea. We don't neccesarilly need new grey sectors, but I think a couple of WH's cutting through the empty center would do us good.
I also agree that we need more reasons to go into serco and Itani space. I haven't been to either in months, because at the moment, besides getting the occasional replacement valk or prom, there is no reason too. I trade to support my pirating habit, but I can do all my trade within two or three grey systems, and still make just as much money as I would anywhere else.
A BP tollway would be a nice temporary fix however. A lot of people play this game for PvP, and the two main areas are pretty far apart. Since the BP exploit was fixed, most people just fight in gray. Hopefully some of the economy and mission changes will give us more reason's to fly through space, but in the mean time, I'd love to see some additional WHs to encourage people to visit farther away locals.

one or two additional wormholes wouldn't be too detrimental, however this should be only a temporary solution if it happens; we don't really need them, and we definately don't need to be reworking the galaxy.
Also, bear in mind that a WH top deneb from grey/UIT will DESTROY trade demand in those sectors, as well as completely remove the long-haul trade missions which have been so pivotal to building faction and trade levels; do you really want to do without that, just for a route to BP from grey that will only really save you ten minutes of flight time in the end anyway? I sure as hell don't...

I think some way to more quickly get across the universe would be of great benefit during our current state of low population. A lot of people are saying that it only takes 15-20 minutes to get from, say, B8 to Deneb, and that's true, but often that's a significant chunk of the time I have to play. If I'm only playing 1 or 2 hours a night, I don't want to be flying 20 minutes to Deneb, discovering nothing going on, and flying 20 minutes back to B8. The times I've done it, I've rarely seen another soul during the trip.
However, that aside, I wonder if we could hear something from the devs about whether any of the things discussed is even possible/feasible? We can talk and scheme all we want, but some things just aren't going to happen. For example, John has already said that the universe is *not* going to physically be made smaller. What about the other ideas?
* Some sort of transport system: This is content, code, and art assets, so it seems certain to be a lot of work, and thus not likely to happen any time soon. Am I right in that assumption, devs?
* New intergalactic wormholes: This seems like a really elegant solution to me. It even fits with the backstory's idea of wormholes opening and closing over time. Devs, is this feasible? Is it a ton of work/resources to add new systems with wormholes or is this something that might be feasible in the shorter term?
Or, should we all just shut up and deal with what we have? :)

Uh Cunjo, I think you miss read me,I didnt say the idea was final, I Said its an example of maybe a map fix, providing more shorter routes between places, however if you feel the need to scream for no particular reason, have at it ^^
Anyway the transports would be a welcome addition and judging by what Momerath has already discussed with me on the test servers they want a expandable vector based map rather than a 2d map so dont get your panties in a bunch. The map isnt happening, however I am toning it back to an improved orginal map to use in the Guide im building.
Edit: Perhaps we could test a wormhole in sedina to say Edras or Helios? maybe just a quick way around grey space? I also kinda like the idea of a new sector, at least one which is under construction, unfinshed stations and such
Edit:
heres the PDF example map, this one is a final and will be seen as the PDF is released probably sometime past the new UI going into production and the missions/ ships being rolled out.

oh sure... give the itani a background while the serco and uit get a sort of cloud!
Eh what can I say, im slanted take it or leave it. ^^

Affirmative, or make friends with the guides so they'll devwarp you if it really bothers you that much.
Chikira:
No, I read you fine. What do you want me to do? pretend to not be critical of your (bad) ideas?
And now you're cutting Sedina/Odia out of all the action... there will be no reason to travel all the way out there from UIT, and therefore no reason for anyone else to either - you're knocking out a major crossroads... please, just leave it be.

Well, I wasn't really asking you Cunjo. I was asking the devs, hoping to get some feedback from them on this long standing discussion.

Eh Well like they say, those who can *do* those who cant.. whine and bitch and complain at those who can. Ive said my piece, not need for a flame war.
End of discussion Cunjo. *PERIOD*
Anyway would anyone like to comment on the Edras/ Helios wormhole idea? Perhaps chnage the locations or warp points, after all this is a suggestions forum and not a *I or you say this is going to happen* forum.

How about everyone brings a friend into the game?

Raising the thread again, because I finally got a bloody SCANNER and found the time to do this...
The Proteus Capital-Class Charter Carrier
Because now that we have big military ships, why don't we have big commercial ships? What this game needs is...
...more red X.
okay, let's try this image host...

I like it.
Yes Cunjo! We definitely need: "Oops! My image for this link is no longer here. Hosted at photobucket"
Of COURSE VO needs that.

Should I feel pathetic or proud that I remember when this thread had 0 replies?
Cunjo, do you always have to piss people off? That's my job, dammit!
That said, I actually like your sketch, and the concepts it presents (though of course I skipped pages two and three so if none of it is original, just take the credit and smile)

And yea, I was here for the beginning of this thread too.
