Both are correct. However, we don't have an easily fixable solution to the playerbase until the game is more 'finished'. Therefore, I'm with shape on making the universe smaller, and easier to get around. I'm not saying we should permanently downsize the universe, but this is a MMOG game! It's about interacting with people!

Making the universe smaller, even temporarily, is a bad idea IMO. It would really change the nature of the game back more towards the FPS nature it had back in the Vendetta Test days. Seeing as the devs are trying to move it more towards being an RPG, this would be a step backwards. And, it would consume a significant amount of the devs' time to shrink the universe, and would also limit the amount of content that the devs would be able to work on creating, until they increased the size of the universe again. There's simply fewer possibilities in a smaller universe compared with a larger one.

I agree with shape. It's a simple, empirical observation that the universe is too big for the number of players we have online. Now what to do about it is another matter altogether... the way I see it we either need to A) shrink the universe or B) get more players.

I'm duplicating a suggestion I made yesterday...

Tie in more shortcuts...make the universe less a circle with a line and more a dynamic system with more crossroads...

Civilization grows at crossroads...more chances for interaction at crossroads

Its not that the universe should be smaller, the ships should just be faster. (Although at the current speed it actually feels like space travel)

If anything the universe should be bigger with many new systems, but we would just need faster ships.

I bet the devs probably have some already....

Dont delete sectors, or remove them, all that needs to be provided is a way to get from Deneb or another far system, to Sedina and grey space areas.

Perhaps an intergalatic wormhole?

Uhh, no. we don't need a smaller universe, we don't need faster ships, and we don't need a bigger universe either, at least not at this point.

What we need is more PLAYERS to fill it. And that will come in time - there's nothing to fix in the meantime with regards to tarvel (though, that mass transport STILL looks cool... when we get them, could I buy one?)

that goes without saying.

But that's not going to happen.

Not for a long time.

So we need to consider what to do in the meantime. And I think artificial methods of shrinking the universe are in order.

Whether that would consist of transport ships, Autopilot for long journeys, additional wormholes/one-way wormholes, sector to sector connections... etc

There have to be ways of somehow making this universe tractable.
And the answer, for at least the next year (and probably longer) is NOT more players.

If these kind of measures were implemented, I think we would see the game grow. Players would come and stay.

Without them, it will take hundreds upon hundreds more players to fill this universe.

Whoah, I like that Chikira. Aside from the redundant triangle of Eo,Metana,Cantus.... I think it would make things way more interesting. Odia would become the hot point for piracy it should have always been.

Although Verasi SHOULD BE GREY!!!!!!!

I wouldn't connect the bastions of itani , serco or uit space with grey or any other nationspaceheadquarter. It would totally destroy the universe seeing as its not normal to have all the defenses in jailk, geira and then none in sectors much closer to the headquarters.

I would also suggest connecting cantus with setalli and the new one that is connected to dreneb.

As connect Nyrius with grey and then connect this grey with artana in stead of dau and itan.

The reason for the Dau - Itan is for trade purposes only, and besides having this link would also draw some more military to the home sector, making Itan actaully look like a capital. Making it also actually necessary to station capital ships in Itan, makes sense for a capital ship to be in the capital eh?

I was thinking perhaps the sector between Itan and Dau would be a kind of exploration sector, with stations under construction, and unmapped as well.

I was trying to get a more varied look in the VO Map as currently it really falls into little sections, where by adding new grey space we get a more varied and realistic look.

The Eo, Metana, and Cantus links are redundant but they do save you one jump, instead of going through Metana then Cantus then EO to Deneb, you can go from Metana to Eo to Deneb without even touching Cantus

Ill add in a few changes and uplaod a new jpg in alittle while ^^

Heres a kinda finalized look, now all that needs to be done is exsacts such as what are the new wormholes, and how woulod we balance it out.

No offense, but I'm kinda glad you dont work on VO, it wouldnt make sense for the Serco to have a unclaimed system leading to Sol II.

jex, I know yer trolling, but see my previous post.

if people want to meet up, then something needs to exist to make those connections more common.

As it is now, everyone just gathers in Latos/Sedina/Odia. Making the rest of the Universe totally pointless.

Well good it doesnt make sense, this is a suggestions forum, just because my idea for new sectors isnt right, doesnt mean you need to attack it, simply give a suggestion, this is a suggestions forum afterall isnt it?

Perhaps laying something out yourself, show me want you would do, eh?

Eh and Jex I kinda agree theres a certain lazyness factor to it, however you also have to note the concerns of european players and others you cant log in at active times, providing them a way to get places faster and actually interact with another player is always going to be a good idea.

Anyway I just had a chat with Momerath and they do want to redo the map however a 2d interactive map really isnt in the current design plan, therefore the map design I did is really only good for fanart or the strategy guide im working. Which now of course im removing the new sectors, and detailing it.
