it is so dull to hear everyone talk about how the behemoth is such an uber ship and all of that talk. the behemoth is not an uber ship. i am sure that a few skilled pilots could easilly take one out, and yet there is no one to try this. why is there no one? because pirating is not recognised as a way to play the game. sure, you can pirate and steal loot and all that, but what else is there? we need something else to show that someone is truly a pirate. sseveral ideas might include having a badge for the # of TRADE ships killed in grey space. why not all ships? well easy! pirates pirate traders, and tradrs fly trade ships. Therefor if it is possible, and it is i am sure, to count the number of trade ships killed in grey space, then why not make a badge for killing x, y, and z # of them? perhaps introducing a new skill set, similar to light weapons and trade, that would be called piracy, or pirating, or whatever.
bottome line is, no matter how it is achived,
WE NEED MORE PIRATES

Pirates are the spice of life. I strongly agree. NPC pirates have already been suggested, but would be interesting. I'm sure we all agree with you, Who? Me? Because [BLAK] is gone, B8 is gone and BP is/was the king. Bring back the pie rats!
as long as there aren't to many pirates...
Yarr, we be a'havin' pirates, matey! An' the only spice ol' JackRum be havin' be in 'is rum, matey!
[BLAK] IS BAK!!!!!
We SO don't not need pirates anymore!!!

well this might not be back for permanente, besides, there were only 3 of them on. WE NEED MORE PIRATES. MAKE GREY SPACE A PLACE TO BE PH33RD!!
Heh. Well Life in VO was getting boring. So perhaps I shall poke my head in more often if some pirates are around now.
Maybe we would have more pirates if they had a target they could actually catch. *cough*Behemoth*cough*
Why can't there simply be roaming SF's of Corvus Merc Mauds and Vulturiouses flying around grey space, attacking any player that happens to cross their paths??
3?
There are more of us than that.

phaser, the behemoth is easily catched by a team of pirates. Though this may seem radical, the rewards are more than enough to sustain more then one pirate.
Ah, on second thought, not all the members of any pirate guild are active at the same time, NPC pirates would be good.
I've always advocated the idea of NPC pirates, specially since BLAK seemd to prefer, before their hiatus, to fight amongst themselves instead of actually pirating.

Like hyenas bringing down a water buffalo? They "lope" it to death. But I think the hyenas are better looking. And smarter? You decide.

There seems to be a general consensus that the "be nice" and "keep it good nature" invitation is not relevant when talking about pirates.
What a great analogy leber mac!
kudos to you! its like hyenas bringing down a water bufflo

I have to agree with Sun Tzu there, Leber. I think you broke my feelings. *sniff* :)
Actually, we do need npc pirates. There aren't enough of us to handle all of the traders, and not enough fast ships to do it with.
I personally would like to be able to ask for cargo as well as cash, since it's more pirate-like (and allows new players to get pirated without losing too much cash), but there aren't any ships that can chase *and* hold cargo. The corvus maud seems to be there for that, but 60 drain for 220m/s can't catch a ship turboing directly at you, let alone something running away. The best combo we have of speed, hold, and weaponry is either the Prom Mk 3, with 28cu and 210m/s at 55 drain, or the Atlas X with 38cu and 210m/s at 50 drain. Otherwise, we are all running around in IDF Valks because that's the only ship that can catch anything in the game, and they can't hold any cargo. So let's have your wallet, please :)

As far as moths being caught "easily" by a team of pirates, well, that's just not true, you generally need 3 players, and all 3 have to be ready to attack immediately. And even then, if the moth brings mines, they'll buy enough time to land.
I think the reason why we used to hang around and fight eachother is strongly correlated with the emergence of the moth. We just couldn't consistently pirate. They'd get away a good 98% of the time.

Sun Tzu is always on my case. Dunno why, I must grate on him for some reason. But, since [BLAK] is back we might as well start up with the rivalries & innuendo again. It's all in good-natured fun...
/me breaks out the tools and repairs Lonestar's feelings and hands them back.
But I'm STILL holding yor SOCK for ransom!

So instead of adapting, the pirates are giving up?
Great. Now we really need those Corvus raider variants. Of course, if they ever come out EVERYONE will be flying them.
