What they also need are a couple center-line "big guns" that are too slow to hit fighters but useful for engaging other cap ships at range. I'm talking about a refire rate of 5-10 seconds, shot velocity of 150 m/s, and duration of 20 seconds. Long enough for a distant enemy cap ship to potentially take evasive action.
Think "Mega-Plasma Devastator" or "Accelerated Avalon Torpedo Turret"

Really, I don't think that Cap ships ought to be even remotely fast, and ought to be absolutely horrible at dodging. Tactical maneuvers is one thing, but dodging is quite another.

Phase, the big gun you want IS the beam cannon, just wait and see =)

Thanks for taking our suggestions to heart and making some minor improvements to the cap ships. (Minor for you MAJOR for us :)

TO everyone else: Remember he said he might be able to make some minor changes to the Cap ship before Saturday’s battle. Please make sure you keep your suggestions simple and the might be implemented.
I originally started these cap ship battles with the intent on not having to make any changes to the current cap ships. I'm glad some minor changes were made though. And I hope we will have a more fulfilling battle this weekend.

So are we all set for Saturday?
Have any bot changes been made in ion storms yet? Will we still have to worry about the cap ships beingoverwhelmed in storms if a couple of players are with it?

We're pretty much set. We haven't migrated the changes to the production server, yet, and I think we're still deciding what will make it, but it will definitely be better than before. There may even be a cool surprise that hasn't even been suggested yet (AFAIK) :)
Well thats good. I wanted the kind weapons to be a suprise. Hopefully more people will participate to see the cap ship changes.

I LOVE THIS NEW DEV!!!
It's just that since I joined the community in November, there haven't been any MAJOR major changes, and in the first week momerath42 is here, he comes and makes a couple small changes that make a HUGE and vastly more interesting difference in game-play. Things we've been begging the devs for ages, but they've been too wrapped up in long-termy stuff. And besides, I don't know the other devs that well because sadly, I'm not a beta guy:(.

Well gosh, thanks, but really Andy did most of the work you'll see tommorow. I just sat there and asked questions mostly while we were working on it. The "long-termy" stuff is *really* cool... just wait and see:)

Not to belittle momerath, but Person, have you been paying attention? There have been a ton of sweeping changes to Vendetta since november. For instance, the major ship balance that swung the balance of power away from the Valkyrie to the Prometheus. Did you even notice how many people were flying the Prom before the balance (you could count the number of regular prom pilots on one hand)? What about the cap ship introduction? That also occurred before momerath's hiring.

I'm sorry I discounted the ship balance because around the time I was always seeing "Wraith mkii lost 20 mass" "All Prometheus category ships gained 25 mass all around" etc etc etc I was still gaining licenses:(. And the cap ships HAVE been really fun since they have been re-introduced from (beta?), but all that has been over the course of 7 months. The changes momerath42 has made, (whether he was at the console, or just forcing Andy to type) have occured in less than a week.

Slight, OT: the cap ship beam turrets are very effective anti-fighter weapons, but it would still be neat to see one or two slow, "big-guns" on the cap ships useful for taking out other cap ships.
werd on that. Something that has to wind up (power up), blazes away for a second or two, and then fades.
