a few mining-related bugs..
..one, the near end of the mining laser seems anchored in the middle of my screen, instead of off the edges like other weapons... this was in a Wraith
..two, in the Dau sector with the wh to Nyrius (forget the coordinates...) there's a large ice crystal formation that reports itself as holding Ishik Ore, but cannot be mined. I assume this is due to whatever control is in place to prevent mining "unique" formations such as those in Dau G-11 around the station, or in Verasi I-5. Those aforementioned station-roids correctly report that they contain no ore... The ice crystal formation thinks it does...
..three, you can select farther asteroids through the substance of nearer ones... this is really annoying if you are within ~100m of a large roid that fills your entire field of view, and you try to target it..

3 is because of the fact that the targetting and radius damage algorithms only calculate off of a point dead-center in the object.
Hmm, we could easily change #3 to actually pick the object you're pointing directly at, and if you're not pointing directly at anything, fall back to what it does now.
The "unique" formations thing is a known bug that Waylon will find a solution for, I'm sure.

Another mining bug found by silentsuicide, mining a waylonic sign results in a crash.
When I was in-game silentsuicide tried mining a sign, and his client crashed, so therefore I said it was found by silentsuicide.
I have been unable to mine any xithricite ore. Every time i find an asteroid that says it has some, i get "there are no resources to mine there" I have checked about 20 different asteroids in half a dozen sectors with the same results.
Same here, Spellcast.
I've seen the same issue that Starfisher & Spellcast mention. Specifically, in Pelatus O-15 there are a large number of Xithricite laced 'roids that are unminable ("There are no resources to mine there"). And it is not limited to Xithricite 'roids: one 'roid that did this the scanner showed as being 100% carbonic ore. The other thing I noticed was that all of the 'roids that did this did not show a temperature. I'm not sure if this is the "unique formations" thing or not; the 'roids all looked normal enough to me.
Are you all trying with the Xithricite mining laser? I've been able to mine xi-rite just fine. It's not a level 0-2 thing (you can get the xi-rite laser at corvus at 2 though).
Not sure about the 100% carbonic though.

The Xithricite asteroids should work now.
Mining signs is fixed for the next client update.

You ought to make the mining beam not "anchor" itself to the roid. It looks weird to have a beam going through an asteroid.
Mega-roids can be scanned but not mined due to large diameter it would appear. i.e. you cant get closer than 100m to center
It measures the distance from the surface, not the center.
Can you point out a particular rock that doesn't work? Sector #/mineral composition?

on the subject of Xi-rite, I was able to mine a good bit of it on Tuesday, from two hollowed-out roids in Dau somewhere... (--note to self.. go look up the sector in my VO notebook, at some time when I DON'T have a cat on my lap :D --)
