A funny thing happened to me while doing Cargo Missions: I qualified for the
next highest level in Cargo Transport, AND was also given the next highest
level in Heavy Weapons for no reason I could see. Not only that, but I am
suddenly able to buy Gauss Cannons (a Light Weapon) even though my Light
Weapons level has not increased, and I have not been able to buy them before.
It all happened in the Divinia system a few moments ago.....

Gauss require both light, and heavy weapons experience, so it's possible you just needed that heavy level and already had the levels needed in light weapons and combat.

As for how you obtained the Large weapons experience to level, maybe you killed some bots while trading, and it just added up over time, or... It is indeed an odd bug.

it is feasable that it is a bug they did just recently change how the liscense mission appears in the station, i'm due for a trade upgrade i should try and weasal a free weapons upgrade out of it too! heh

No, I didn't kill anything while trading. And I use Heavy Weapons very rarely.

Whoah. I had a dream that I fixed this bug. But when I woke up, the solution made no sense, so I'm gonna have to spend some time looking into it. :)

Is it possible that new weapons became available to you because your standing with the local faction went up?
