Friendly Damage
I was in Serco territory where I am KOS, and another Itani who was liked by Serco was with me. I showed up as Red on his radar, even though we were both liked by Itani, and further more he could damage me even though I could not damage him.
I assume this is a bug.
I assume this is a bug.
Never assume. Today's bug is tomorrow's feature.
Well one way damage seems like a really bad idea, especially when it changes depending on what sector you're in.
I fail to understand while friendly fire is still limited. Its totally artificial and very difficult to grasp. The defbots already enforce no-fire zones. Enabling true friendly fire will not be a problem for noobs.
It will be for the serco n00bs who think the red-colored name of a fellow serco is an indication of their hostility.
And? If you are stupid and kill somebody, you will have to pay for it (in standing dollars that is).
But that would be bad(tm), since they may get pissed and just log.
newbs not reading the instructions isn't a reason to not do something like this. First off it's much easier to get that Serco is red, than it is to equate the targeting box with the person you've targeted.
If a newb doesn't read the 'serco are red' and ignores the bots warnings to not fire in a no-fire-zone, and actually kills someone who's liked by their starting nation, then they're most likely going to have to restart their character.
Honestly I don't think that's very likely. Yes there will be some people who run into that since there will be so many people... but getting rid of the artificial FF is worth that very tiny risk (though maybe not other things that the devs are thinking of that we haven't).

And what do you do if someone creates a "demo" char and griefs newbs?
Newbs being able to kill each other would cause trouble.
Its something which can be heavly exploited.
No it is good as is.
PS: this doesnt mean that there is no bug. :)

It takes quite a while to kill somebody in a bus. By that time Mr. & Mrs. Defbot have already blasted the "demo" char.
If I was a red griefing red newbies, I'd stick to the botting sectors, flying about wopping whoever I see in my bus.
If its a guarded area, bots will hunt you down. If its an unguarded sector, noobs are not supposed to be there in the first. place.
Genka, what would you do when the def bots came after you? Would you still be 'wopping' busses in your shiny bus with 3 1 shot killing 210m/s flying def bots on your tail?
No one was suggesting that newbs would be killing other newbs by mistake. It's that they'll shoot once at them and the def bots will rip them to shreds.
Which really isn't that big of an issue.

... especially since the bus is free.
true and by the time they get a ship that costs money they should have a handle for the game, and by the time they get the hog they should understand the game so i dont see this being a financial problem, but i would think that on your first day you accidentally fire a shot when testing out your "cool" new ship (bus) and then get slaughtered. That can be a bit discouraging. then that player would either a. try to fire again and figure out what destroyed him/her in an instant or never venture in that space again... there should be a message on the hud saying that the NPC will kill you if you shoot your weapons because i know when i first started playing i didn't look at the chat menu and when i did i was confused about weither a bot was saying something or if it was a player because of the /me or me now a days.
so i dont see a problem if the message is displayed in the hud, acutally for all players because it gets annoying switching to the mission chat to check if the defs will kill you for firing
darth out

This thread has gotten SOOOO off topic.
Not really Eldrad. Your encounter is entwined in the whole FF and radar setup. It would be a simple matter to take care of if we stuck to nations but, with the introduction of guild support and the ability of a player to become "nationless", everything about all three aspects needs to be looked at.
[inaccurate info edited out - thanks Eldrad]
While I agree that if you are in that position, your inability to damage other Itani pilots is wrong and should be fixed, it can't be without adjusting FF and the radar issue.

Relayer, No.
My post was a bug report. My nation rating was +972. I did not climb down the ladder of my nation's faction system, but rather climbed very high on it.
Most of the discussions on this thread are suggestions, and are merely related to the title I chose for the thread, not the bug that I actually was trying to report.
