Speed Bug.
I am flying a Guardian, presently--heavy engine, max velocity 65 m/s without boost.
I tap turbo (or release it, whatever) and watch my velocity drop to 60 m/s. It's not a big issue, of course, but I love me my speed.

How did you get a Guardian?
I think he means a Serco Guardian Vulture.
yeah, but speed has always worked this way, Vendetta space has a pretty high coefficient of friction, therefore your maximum continuous speed is limited to what the ship can do without turbo. It may not be perfect physics, but it makes the gameplay better in the long run.
When you're over your max speed the only way the game can slow you down is by applying massive amounts of force to slow you down. This means that you most likely won't be forced down to your actual max speed, just that the force will go away as soon as it detects that you are under that speed, which it can't do every millisecond due to network restraints.
Don't listen to Eldrad...he is having a bad brain day...
This is an indication that one or both of your front breaking thrusters is sticking open for a milisecond after you reach maximum cruising speed. Take your ship to the nearest station and have them adjusted or replaced.
Failure to do so may cause your ship to go backwards after releasing your boost button.
Serco Guardian Vulture part numbers: 00000AL230542V-SG & 00000AR230542V-SG

Thanks for the comedy (sincerely).
There's a flying-over-boost drag applied, clearly, which also reins in top speeds (because there wasn't exactly a top speed, waaaaaaay back, although getting to 400+ took a lot of time). It's just that said maximum is pegged to 60 instead of 65, which my engine allows.
It's an issue of twiddling a wee variable somewhere, I suspect.
Alternately, Itani foes have sabotaged my vessel, which I suspect is actually the case--in retaliation for my strikes in Itani territory. Or something.

Thanks for the thanks!
Seriously though, I believe it's a momentum/mass issue. If you start at 60 and hit your turbo until you're going a little faster than 65... let's say 80... and let go, it will bounce to a different number below 65, not necessarily 60.
