Bug with Cargo mission?

May 13, 2004 stuepfnick link
Hello!

I had this experience now: I was told to deliver cargo from sector 4 to sector 1. A very easy one. So I took my cargo, left the station, went to jump-point, activated.... loading screen... loading screen... bar is full.. still loading screen... gladly chat works in loading screen, I said, i am stuck in loading screen, they said, use: "/logoff" So I did, logged on a second later, thought everything's fine! Went to the station and docked. But what happend? No mission completed?
So I was disappointed, but did another mission quickly back to sector 4 and 1 again. I took some cargo for trading in addition, and when there I saw: Hey, still a datapad with me. Mission was not running, so I sold it. Then I said there's a bug/cheat, when logging of and on again you have still cargo, but no one wants it anymore, so it would be a good cheat to make quick money for newbies.
Then someone said, you lose experience, another I lose faction. My Itany faction was still +700, so very well, only serco -600 and some biometric stuff -200. I asked to get this explained a little more, but no way. Most people are very incooperative in this game. So I went here to post my issues in the forum.
Now when I am in station, the trade missions say, they don't have a contact person out there, so i have to pay the cargo myself.
Is this because i am more experienced now (harder missions)? Or is this because of the bug I have experienced? If it is because of the bug, could anyone give me back my correct standings? I don't want to have decomposed gameplay the rest of this test peroid, just because of one silly bug. I brought that cargo to station 1 even in time, but they did not want it anymore.

Thanks for enlightenment of this issue!
greetings,

lol, You can't make money off cargo they give you (its an unabuseable bug... to an extent...). They give you missions where you have to buy the cargo, and after a while (of trusting you with cargo) you'll get the full mission list again (with the missions where they give you datapads and cargo and stuff).

What (s)he is saying is that they got stuck in warp during a mission. The mission aborted when they had to /logoff. When they logged back on, they still had the datapad from the sborted mission and where able to sell it for a tidy sum.

As far as having to pay upfront for the cargo for reinbursment on delivery, there are many missions that you are required to do this. They apear less often as you gain "karma" points with a particular station.

there is a number of threads about this mission bug. two viable solutions have been proposed, mission timeout after an hour (or other predetermined time) or mission is active until cancelled.

it sucks when you do a mission for serco and you get disconnected from server for one reason or another.

you do take faction hit every time you fail the mission (and you fail it by default when you logoff or get disconnected). that happenes with every mission - bug with mission engine.

So what does that exactly mean? What faction I got, and what does it mean? I also often take missions they assume to me: "We have another job for you. Do you want to sign up?" and the possible answers are (1) Yes, or (2) No.
I always take them, look what to do, and if they are not my taste i quit it. Does this do faction hit too? I must do it this way, because it is not said what to do, before accepting the mission.
I just wanna be a good and honorable trader, that's my role I want to play. And I only lost cargo once, when I got blasted from an NT, so I told the mission computer and paid the fee.
But that one, where I was stuck in loading screen is unfair, because I brought the cargo to the desired destination, and that even in time for the bonus. And because I was forced to log off, they did not take it anymore, so i had to sell it. It sold for abut 1400 and some bucks. It would be ok to me, to pay a fee of 5000 or more bucks (even if i completed the mission), but I don't want some strange and game fun affecting disadvantages for that.
Please tell me, what it actually means to me, and if there is a way to get back the same faction standings as before in any way!
The mission was: Bring a blueprint datapad from sector 4 to sector 1, so a very very easy task. There it happend. What does it mean to me and future gameplay? If it's a hard and irreparable thing, I think I will quit the game until the next reset. But i hope it isn't. ;-)

So what happend/happens to me? If I don't get good missions anymore and I am hunted by some NPCs for that, it makes no sense to me anymore.

PS: For a tidy sum is good. It was a ludicrous sum at all. It just would be ok, if you are new and have 0 money (first thought, funny thing what happend, could be a abuseable bug for newbies, because I still had the cargo, but no one asked for it anymore, but then I heard that this is not true, because of the "faction hit"). With laid-back trading I get about 30.000 in just some minutes, the datapad was sold for 1.400 and some bucks. ;-)

just my 1400 bucks,

Ok.. let's go thru this agian.. slowly

Let's say that your inital standing is +200, money about 1.000 and you have a bus (6 cargo)
You take a mission (deliver 5 cargo to somewere), you are given 5 cargo, you go there, they take it from you, they give you some money (not much though), experience (50 - 300xp) and faction hit (+8 points for one mission .. might be less for easy one or low level one).

So, after that mission your standing is 208, and you have 1.500 money

Now if you stuck in wh, or you are not able to make it to destionatiosn AND you cancel mission without notyfying Mission Comp (for example by /logof) you loose about 5 points with the fraction that gave you mission

So you have 195 standing and 1.000 cash

If you msg the Mission computer they will tell you to pay for the cargo but no faction hit:

So you have 200 standing and 500c

Losing a trading mission does not cause irreparable harm at all. It's annoying. Yes, it's always unfair to be the victim of a bug, but we don't intend for that; that's why it's a bug. That's why you're here.

If you do some more trading missions you don't have anything to worry about; the stations just don't like to give you free cargo if you have a history of losing (or stealing) it. Your lost cargo will be erased from their records of you after doing a few more successfully, and your faction standing will recover too.

This is true.

stuepfnick...when you complete a mission, and the mission comp asks if you "...want to sign up?", say "2) no"...then the missions will be presented on the cargo mission button in the station. If the next mission that comes up is not to your taste, decline it and leave the station/come back in to get a new one OR, if you are in your home sectors, hit the "license test" button and click "accept"...this will change the cargo missions.

Ok, this actually makes it very irrelevant. I thought of going from +200 to -200 (because i have some faction standing of some ice stuff at -200) and this may never be recovered anymore. I just wondered, because no one gives me cargo for free anymore. About the money, I have about 200000, 2 wraith, a bus, and a speedier ship (can't remember name now) and didn't have to pay a fee at all. I would have loved, if at least I could have given them some money, so they aren't angry. But they neither took the blueprint nor the money. The mission computer did just not reply.
Once I "really" lost cargo, because someone shot me down, so I told it the computer, he said that were very important Itani bot blueprints, so I had to pay 5000, which is nothing and everything seemed fine again ;-)

Btw: I don't see the point why you lose the mission, when logging of (or losing connection), and that even if you still finish it in time for bonus.

@ RelayeR
Thanks for the tip! I will do so in the future. Does it make faction hit too, when taking a mission and giving up immediately after that??

Thanks for all your help!

Yes, you will take a hit for accepting then aborting. That's why I told you to to tell the mission comp "no thanks" AFTER you complete a mission. This will cause no hit to you.
