40FPS -> 10FPS
I'm having the same problem. Check out the thread I bumped up recently regarding memory leaks and FPS loss. Anyway, Raybondo e-mailed me saying that they couldn't find any memory leaks in the Mac client for Vendetta. It turns out that OpenGL is buggy or something is broken and Apple needs to release an update in order for it to be fixed.
I'm really not sure whether that's happening or not. I remember one release being fine and another one being totally laggy (in framerate) without having any OS X updates in between. So I'm not so sure whether it had anything to do with updating OS X to a newer version and having those newer drivers being buggy. But then again I don't ever recall having these problems with OS X 10.2.8, so he may be right.
If anyone is still running Vendetta under OS X 10.2.8, please post about your experiences on framerate droppage. If you haven't updated OS X in a long time and you've noticed that Vendetta has become slower with each update, it may in fact be something related to the game code rather than the graphics drivers or OpenGL. I'm a huge update freak and I grab whatever latest update comes out, so it's hard for me to pinpoint stuff like this.
Whatever it is I hope it gets fixed soon. I hate having to restart Vendetta every hour or so just to get my performance back up to speed. Bleh!

What sector? What resolution, do you have doshaders=0?
Heyas, devs.
As you may (or may not) have noticed, I have stopped playing much due to the massive loss of FPS for slow machines Vendetta has brought with the latest updates.
At the early 3.3's (up to 3.3.5, I believe), Vendetta was fully playable on my 350Mhz G4, 16MB Video (my definition of "fully playable" is 40FPS + with Medium Settings). Now, however, I'm lucky if I can get 10FPS when looking at the SkyBox... with background and all other settings (textures etc) set to "low".
What's new? What is the reason of this massive drop of FPS for slower machines?
All the Best,
Archon_MkIV.

The fps started dropping when the devs released a version that was supposed to "improve" fps in sectors, like when they changed the roids in 4.... I have also been experiencing fps drops, sometimes 1 day in 9 i'll get fine fps, the next day, it'll drop down to 5
That's exactly around the same time my performance dropped also. When the station in s14 was moved to s5. I can't remember if there were any OS X updates back then though. All my other games seem to be fine after all this time. Could it be a GL extension glitch that Vendetta only uses?
No idea, Devs?
i have no idea. I'd be surprised if we're using an extension that noone else is using. I think we may be using an extension incorrectly but so far I haven't found anything wrong with how we're using it.
Oh, I've just written about this here:

I'm using Dual P3 600MHz/matroxG540(OpenGL:1.2 Mesa 6.1) /debian.sarge/1GB RAM system.
FPS is from 2 (near space station) to 60 in open space. And MASSIVE memory leaks are true. I noticed ventetta using 1.5GB (!!) of swap space (and I have 1GB of RAM!) after 1 hour of playing. After restarting the client all is fine for 5minutes, then swap is hit hard again.
