Thrustmaster Sol R-1 button assignments

Mar 07, 2026 tradervyx link
Hello,
Recently bought Sol-R-1 flightstick. but I cannot assign anything to the controls. I have tried VO keyboard menu as well as entering config file to do it manually, but it sadly has no effect. I do have axis control and one or two of the switches do stuff , but not what I want.
The device is recognised in VO joystick menu.
It is also recognised in Windows 11 game controller , and all inputs work.
Maybe I have missed something?
I have logitech 3D extreme and it works no problem.
Thanks

It's possible that the buttons you're trying to assign binds to are being recognized as an axis instead of a button. Windows typically plays nicer with these things than Linux, but on Linux my old Thrustmaster considered the hat switches to be an axis and therefore I couldn't bind regular commands to them without doing something to fool the OS.

Basically any analog control on a joystick is typically considered an Axis because it's not a simple On/Off interface. If the button can read variable pressure then it's more likely to not be recognized as a "button".

Do any of the buttons work?
Which ones do and which ones don't?

Hello,
Thanks draugath,
actually a switch works 1 and 2 , it fires primary and secondary weapons as default.
but nothing else. There are another 3 switches of the same design, but I cannot map anything to those. There is also a mini-joystick which can be configured for strafing.
I am hoping to get a solution . There is a dedicated mapping tool for the Flightstick called T.A.R.G.E.T, but first impression is that is not user friendly, unless you are proficient in coding (which I am not...computers were not a thing when I studied at school..hehe).
I am sure other players use wheels, pedals, dual sticks etc. I have a feeling maybe I've bitten off more than I can chew, despite the sales pitch from Thrustmaster.
Incidentally, I put a support ticket into Inc. , who suggested I should have posted on bugs forum.
so, sorry Inc. for the duplicity.
thanks

I have this working now using the TARGET software.
Although I have to say that the Logitech extreme 3D pro is a much better responsive 'stick. It's a lot cheaper too

It would be more accurate to say that the Logitech extreme 3D pro is ergonomics are better, but I suppose it is what you are used to.
