Unmanageable ship

Dec 07, 2024 Infinitis link
I undocked with an XC from my Goliath to dock with a station in Verasi C-4. I'm not entirely sure how it happened, but before I managed to dock the empty XC, it became completely unmanageable. Nothing was working at all. I couldn't change the speed, engage turbo, spin the ship, or even use the brakes.

Logging off was the only way to stop the ship's inertia. However, when I logged back in, the problem persisted. There was a persistent bold zero on the speedometer, as if it was indicating a turbo speed had been reached, even after relogging. I decided to leave it and quit for the day. When I returned the next day, I was still stuck in space, with nothing having changed. Still bold "0" on the speedometer.

Another player tried to ram me to see what would happen. Even the slightest touch made the XC spin rapidly and move away, possibly indefinitely. I tried relogging a few times, but it didn't help. I logged in with a different character to see if the problem was isolated, and found that the other character was not affected.

Finally, using the /explode command resolved the issue in 10 seconds.

I bought a new XC after I had to explode the previous one. It was working for a short time. Now, I am unable to launch from the Goliath.

"Unable to launch: Your power cell does not have enough Grid Power to support the Grig Usage of the equipped addons."

It is an XC with a Fast Charge Power Cell and no addons at all, of course.

I cannot launch also one other ship.

I cannot actually launch 2 ships out of 4. The reason is the same.

I am not sure if you repaired it, but both ships are working again now.

I don't think we've done any code changes related to that. Do you use any kind of game controller or bluetooth type device that might be.. doing something strange? Maybe a key is being engaged but it's not obvious until you launch?

We were never able to reproduce any of your prior complaints about this kind of thing, so we have no idea, at present.

I don't use anything like that, and nothing has changed on my end. I am using only a wired mechanical keyboard and mouse. I do not use a macro capable keyboard for playing VO. Both were functioning properly, even within the VO client and with other ships at the same time. Moreover, I always try to avoid any possible interferences, so ...

1) When I got stuck in the uncontrollable ship, I tried to issue direct commands like /+turbo to bypass my controls, key bindings, etc. You can probably veify that in your logs. Unfortunately, nothing I tried was working. Everything started working again immediately after /explode and buying a new XC. Until the second problem (undocking).

1.5) The mega-spin was also a bit odd and could hardly be affected by my controls.

2) When I realised that I couldn't undock with just one out of the four ships using my standard controls, I tried pressing M-C-A to access the capital ship hangar, selecting the problematic ship, and clicking the "Launch With This Ship" button. Then, a window with the previously quoted message appeared. All three other ships were working properly. Later, one more ship started being affected, while the other two ships continued to function correctly, both directly and with my original bindings. I stopped playing for the day out of fear that the problem would spread, affecting more and more of my ships.

More details ...
It was an XC, so there were no add-ons. I checked that it was equipped with an FC. The capital ship was overstuffed, so I couldn't remove the power cell to potentially cause the issue, even if I had been foolish enough to try.

The problem persisted despite client restarts and overnight. All controls with other ships were functioning. It disappeared later the following day, and I saw your replies to other threads, so I assumed you had probably fixed it. The problem has been resolved since then.

There is only one potential coincidence I am aware of. I think I renewed my VO subscription on that account shortly before the problem appeared. The capital ship was active and docked. Its contents (the other ships) was the same. So, the subscription was renewed while I was online. It has always worked before, and I'm not suggesting it caused the problem. It's just something I don't do every day.
