Multiple sounds can be heard when picking up cargo
Testing setup:
- A stack of 5 x FCP floating in space
- Run over with an empty XC
- Cargo Tractor Beam is On (IDK if that matters)
Actual result:
- 1 FCP is picked up (OK)
- 1-3 cargo-pickup sounds are played (Not expected and misleading)
It has been occuring since the recent changes.
Additionally, the tractor beam sometimes causes the crate to rotate around the ship almost indefinitely. This seems related, and while I dislike the idea of starting dozens of threads in the Bugs forum, I can start a separate thread for this issue if necessary.

Yes, please create a different ticket for different problems.
The issues are definitely not related. It doesn't matter if they're both "cargo" or both appear in the same patch: triggering sound effects are not the same as tractor-beam engagement.
Please also post details (like location/date/time) if possible. Also like.. what ship you were using, what "stuff" you did that caused this to happen.
You may run into a problem all the time, and consider it "obvious" because of a particular ship configuration that you favor.. but we might not be testing with the right loadout to reproduce the problem, since we may not realize what specific case you're seeing.

This is happening to me regularly, regardless of location or time. If I drop a stack in a sector and then subtract from it by picking up a part of it, I hear 1-3 sounds "randomly." By "randomly," I mean with no apparent connection to conditions or user interactions. I will provide location and time data next time.
Please try to replicate the issue without any plugins installed:

Select Advanced...
Select Game
In Game Options, at the bottom of the list, toggle Plugins to Disabled
Select Apply
Select Connect
You must do it this way because otherwise some code from plugins may still reside in memory and have an effect.

We have recently reproduced double-sound effects from cargo pickups. So, we do have an internal case for this. Thanks.
But, I haven't yet seen any problems with cargo "orbiting" players due to the tractor beam.

Thank you. The cargo-orbiting issue is quite rare, and I haven't personally encountered it since the last report. Should it occur again, I will ensure to create a new thread with location and time information.
I am sorry to say this, but it still seems buggy in several ways.
Currently, the sound is sometimes missing when you are consecutively picking up multiple crates (quickly in one place). Some events produce sound, while others do not. Cargo occasionally orbits for a noticeably prolonged period (GMT is: Mon Nov 18 11:01:23 2024 / Latos N-2). I have also observed target rectangles orbiting for a short time with no cargo crates in them.
These "bugs" are mostly cosmetic and do not limit my gameplay. As just a player, the number of minor issues is becoming too overwhelming for me to track and report regularly. Perhaps a dedicated tester could spend some time on this. Nevertheless, I wanted to inform you about the problem. I hope you understand.

Okay.. Again: Cargo orbiting has nothing at all to do with sound-related issues.
It's about as related as joystick problems, or graphical shaders, or adding menu features. One has absolutely nothing to do with the other.

The process of reporting and diagnosing bugs is too complex to blend totally-unrelated bugs together into a single discussion thread.
We'll take a look at the multi-crate items not producing sounds. If you end up determining a correlation (a particular type of stack, where it is reproducible, for instance) that kind of information would be helpful.
