Unresponsive station buttons, unable to select ship

Jun 19, 2024 Kokenkai link
I use a VPN, Australia.

I use wifi

And I use a Samsung SM-A546E

Luxen De'Mark on discord Said they would attach screenshots and video to this thread.
and they'll be at the bottom of the post

I can't purchase a new ship, cannot launch ship, cannot select one, chat doesn't work, it could be a network thing, before this bug happened I was playing a beginner mission called milkrun, I failed the mission by being afk and idle and I quit the game.

But yeah there is a weird noise that goes on for infinite as well.

I'm using the HD client version.

Selecting a ship button provides no feedback after highliting. He currently has no ship.

Hrmmm, you hadn't mentioned on discord that you were using a VPN. That might complicate your network access, on top of already being in Australia of all places. The devs might be able to know more or shed more light, or something, though...?

I found a temporary fix
I had to clear the games cache
And to force stop
For some reason the game runs in the background instead of running as an app
Which I think it's because the can couldn't be properly closed

I turned my vpn off and it still didn't work until I cleared my cache

For some reason the game runs in the background instead of running as an app

What do you mean by this, exactly?

If the game is backgrounded, it will continue running in the background, and will return to usage if task back to the backgrounded app.

But the game should never "launch" into the background, on first-runtime.

I think he means the semi-bizarre behavior where the app is "hidden" from (most?) app switchers when you switch to anything else. Sometimes, Vendetta Online closes when you switch away from it, but other times it keeps running even though you can't find it in the android app switcher (must re-launch the game; if it is already running, it opens). It only rarely remains available in the android app switcher. because it doesn't show up in the app switcher when you open it, you cannot slide the app away to close it, so it could remain open in the background for [many] users.

I sent raybondo a video of this via discord after whatever discussion prompted it, february 2023. I've gone ahead and shared it with you as well, now.

This occurs with all of the following devices I own (aka every android capable of running VO I own), and has occured... basically ever since I started playing Vendetta Online.

LG G8 ThinQ - Android 12
Lenovo Tab M10 Plus 3rd Gen (TB125FU) - Android 13
ASUS Zenpad 8.0 - Android 5

It was explained to me by... someone... that it was related to my android's app switcher(s) being incompatible with how the game runs in the background, though whether that's true or they're talking out of a gas can, I dunno.

Yes, there's a plugin in the video, but I can say that this occurs on all devices even after fresh installs, no plugins or settings adjusted manually.

Well, I have no recollection of hearing about this before. But, also, showing things to Ray is not a useful way of reporting Bugs.

Anyway, I have never seen an app-backgrounding (or restoring) problem on any of my devices, nor has Ray. So, that covers Pixels, main-line Samsung Galaxy, Sony hardware and a handful of others, from Android 6 to 14. It always shows up correctly in my task viewer, and swiping it "away" kills the process.

There is a generalized delay (sometimes a second or more) where switching from a landscape app to a portrait view will take a moment for the Android device to re-generate new "task windows" to choose from that are formatted in the right axis of display.. since it has to do actual image manipulation to do this. But, this is just an absolute landscape-vs-portrait thing on the OS, and has nothing to do with the game itself.

I did watch your video, but I was a little unclear on when you were doing which things, and how much of that might be related to the OS re-formatting images to fit an aspect change from landscape to portrait?

Now, I will also note that Sony stays pretty close to AOSP, and Google literally just runs AOSP, so those are very close to "base Android". Samsung usually is willing to mess with the OS a bit more, but I have yet to see this kind of problem there?

It's entirely possible that we're not-doing something expected in the lifecycle, but.. I haven't personally seen that yet, and need to know more.

But, perhaps this should be a different Bugs thread, because it's pretty fair from the main subject here.
