seems as if the new tractor beam is not functioning
try as i might, i still have to run over cargo to pick it up
i've tried a capship and moths, toggled the tractor off/on, inched closer and closer to try to determine an effective range...nothing
are there parameters to this that i'm missing? is it a beam or a field? what is the intended range?

8m from the center of the ship; most ships are probably big enough that you won't see it easily, if at all. I could see it in my hound, though.
8m from the center?
i'm sorry, but...8m?
how is that supposed to make any discernible difference? a moth is big enough that it matters for naught, much less a capship where it definitely makes no difference whatsoever.
if it's a field, then it should be called a "tractor field" or "cargo magnet" and have a field that is respective to the hull rather than the center... if it's a beam, then it should be able to be aimed and operate from a trigger.
Seriously, if this cargotractor is going to "...allow easier pickup of nearby crates", then it needs to be easier for _all_ ships, not just the tiny ones that don't really carry much cargo in the first place.
i would much rather that the tractor beam feature be an actual "beam" to equip in a port with different levels of range and effectiveness, instead of having a benign and limited field that only mildly benefits certain ships.

because its still in its experimental phase, and based on what ray said last night, its possible we can extend it out in the future outside of the base tractor range?
pretty sure the devs would rather work the kinks out, and its more pointed at new or mobile pilots who are having issues manuevering their ship enough to properly pick up cargo. Let it mature and eventually it'll more likely be what you're looking for.

I tried it today, and it seems to work fine. Did you turn it on?
you need to assign a key to it in settings / keyboard
guys guys...scroll up...Lux and i already handled this...discussion is over
It specifically does not work on capital ships, at present.
There are also some other issues at higher pings, and it may actually need to be re-written. Anyway, as Luxen says, the point for now is new-user-experience improvement.
