still, dud avalons that won't explode
i tried to bump the last thread i posted about this, but it was dead..
This occurred today at 5:30am PDT.
i was in odia c-14 killing the NPC pirate dent when i had another dud avalon event. In fact, this seems to _only_ happen when engaging the unrat dent. Frankly, i kill the unrats quite a lot, and this has not happened since the last time i posted about it, so i assumed it was no longer an issue. I had killed the escort and quickly returned to the dent sector in a centaur2. I started the run with avalons at 2500m, so there is no possibility that i was out of range. I launched 8 avalons and then strafed to the side and watched as they approached the dent, arrived, made contact, and simply disappeared into the hull with no explosion. i guess all i can do is to keep an eye out for it again and post any more details...haven't really noticed any other correlation except that it is when engaging the unrat dent.

happened again today...5:04am sedina c-3
full salvo of 8 avalons fired from a 65m/s run at 2600m out
first 4 explode....second 4 hit he hull and do nothing
there happened to be a second player in the sector this time
i jumped out and re-loaded and then jumped back
the second run had no issues and detonated as expected

Ok, so, it's not the avalons...it's the trident-- not only has this now occurred again within the last week, twice, but now it happened with full salvos of chaos/gems. _Plus_, another player reported (on /100) the same thing happening to them yesterday with an un-shielded dent that they were attacking at the ukari blockade: full salvo of chaos, no damage.
Ok, so, it's not the avalons...it's the trident-- not only has this now occurred again within the last week, twice, but now it happened with full salvos of chaos/gems. _Plus_, another player reported (on /100) the same thing happening to them yesterday with an un-shielded dent that they were attacking at the ukari blockade: full salvo of chaos, no damage.

Just to be crystal clear here, you aren't reporting no damage, but rather no explosion, correct?

It seems like there are a few different possibilities here, worth looking for..
1) Missiles hit the Unaligned Pirate trident and don't explode, but DO actually damage it.
2) Missiles hit the Unaligned Pirate trident and don't explode, and don't damage it.
#1 is potentially a visual issue, with explosion packets not being sent or received at the right time.
#2 is more problematic.. for some reason, and explosion effect would not be spawned, but the missile would be removed, and no damage applied. That's a bit odd.
Now, it may be a little challenging to detect whether or not damage is applied, sometimes. The damage indicator is quantized only 32 steps, if I recall (if sufficient damage isn't applied to jump to the next "step", it isn't sent to the client). This resolution should still be enough to see if missiles have done roughly the expected damage to the target, but not precisely.
Also, please post your ping and network connection status around these times. If it's related to explosion visuals not being sent back properly, that could be network-related in some way. Different types of packets have different priorities.
Do you have any kind of intensive plugins running? I'm remembering things like some plugins in the past, which did really significant amounts of network traffic. Like, if a plugin were trying to actively query things about other ships very quickly, it might result in things like "visual explosion" packets being dropped.
I also find it odd that, despite the frequency with which people kill the Unaligned Pirates, only you and perhaps one other person is reporting this problem; which is why I'm asking the network and plugin related questions. If you run into other people talking about this, please have them post to this thread as well.
One way or the other, we'll figure it out and resolve the issue, but this kind of information can help narrow the field of possibilities, and make debugging a lot faster.

Ok, to be clear, this _always_ results in no explosion and no damage.
The other player also reported no damage against the Itani trident in ukari.
My ping is pretty stable and stays around 90-110

Well....i do kill the unrats quite a lot, hence the "only" perceprion [shrug]

Please keep the specific reports coming, dates/times, etc.
We added more debug-logging on Tuesday, to try and help identify what's happening. We've investigated the existing reports, but couldn't come up with anything conclusive based on available data.
