So I tried to take the mining tutorial mission on a new character and the game returned some error along the lines of 'you cannot take this mission'. This seems like a bug. If I am not allowed to take the mission, then why is it in the list?

On a separate note, I did a 'mine 50cu of carbonic' type mission, and got no mining xp for completing the mission. This seems like an oversight.

That's strange. Can you submit a support ticket with the character name and date/time of the problem, please?

That mining tutorial mission is written with an older mission system. We'll make note of that issue.

I can fire up the game, try to take the mining tutorial mission again, then log out and save the log files for you if you'd like.

As for the mine X cu of ore, is it supposed to give mining xp? If so, then I'll do another, probably on the test server as I can teleport around until I find a small enough one to not take forever. If not, then that seems like a design oversight to me.

I probably will not get around to it tonight, please let me know what you want me to test. Also would doing those two tests (if both are warranted) be better done in separate client sessions or the same session?

The mine X cu of ore mission does not give mining XP directly, you acquire the XP from actually mining the ore.
I think I tracked down your character and you did receive mining XP for mining the ore.
