Eureka! Controller drift issues are VR only!
I started VO on GearVR with an XBox One controller. Uncontrollable drift issues made me quickly switch to my Windows laptop, and I hadn't gone back for about three months. I recently installed the Android version of VO on my phone as well, so I could play it when away from home.
My XBox One controller works flawlessly when playing the Android version of the game. I was so pleased with this, but disappointed with the small screen size, that I decided to pop the phone into my GearVR and try playing that way as well. BOOM! Drift issues returned!
With my controller setup, the left stick strafes up/down and left/right while the right stick looks up/down and left/right. I had an uncontrollable drift down with a slight turn to the right.
Note- the steer-by-look is disabled.

That's unfortunate. What does the Calibration menu look like in VR? Is the slider for the drifting axis not centered?
Note: Don't select the "Set Dead Zones" button, there's currently a bug that forces you to have to restart the app. That will be fixed in the next update, and you will be able to set the deadzone of the axis to remove the drift.

All of the sliders are centered, and return to center very consistently. I have not messed around with the dead zones.
I was able to set deadzones after the latest update (10/6/2018), but only after some careful trial-and-crashing. If I set Center more than once or twice before saving the settings, it would crash. Once I determined that this was the issue, I was able to adjust everything and eliminate my drift issues.
Vendetta on VR is now the beautiful immersive experience I've been hoping for! How can I record my flights to share?
