Weird invisibility glitch

Dec 29, 2003 raine link
Was hunting a Gold in S11 and noticed rockets coming at me, hitting, his name showing up. Looked for him, he didn't show up on radar, noticed they were coming from 100m away, and yet his ship and radar signature were entirely invisible, like nothing was there (could see starfield behind)

Related note: today I was noticing I could target friendlies on radar but their blips weren't showing up -- id est, I saw a little colored circle but no green dot

I've seen same thing in S18 with bots. Fire coming out of wazoo and no way of hitting that invisible ship. Made me run like hell.

I becamse invisible in s11 once.
Dunno how it happened. (all I did was kill someone... mmm...)

Hmm, when that happened, did you become 'invisible' to everyone in that sector? or just to 1 person? or 2? or the bots? I think this is an indicator of a server bug but we are unable to duplicate it. When you see an invisible person (meaning they don't show up on the radar but their ship is flying around) are you experiencing lag? How often does this invisibility bug happen?

A couple of minutes ago I because invisible once again, this time in s10.
I couldn't really test alot of things because of the lack of targets. I could, however, kill a person flying by.

Info from first incident:
I was invisible to everyone and everything, including bots.
Noone could damage me except my own rocket's splash.
A rocket which was fired at me did NOT explode.

Info from second incident:
As the first, I because invisible after killing someone. (I THINK both of the cases a dead Hornet was involved)
The weird part was, after I /logoff ed and logged back on, I was near the dock's entrence.
That made me wonder what actually this bug IS. Maybe it is the fly-out-of-control-at-huge-speed-across-the-sector type of bug? Maybe the client is semi synced? The server doesn't know where the client is, but the bugged client knows where other things are?

NOTE: When you got this bug, you can't jump nor dock. You can, however, damage people and bots. That fact might support the theory of the-server-doesn't-know-where-you-are.

Also, I had my regular lag. However, I had packet loss (even though I ALWAYS have packet loss.)
Maybe the packet loss is somehow connected?

Hope I helped.

Also, I seem to have a lot of bugs which seem to be caused by bad server-client sync.
(Fly-out-of-countrol. Invisible. The super weird incident where my money+hull+bounty+speed+worm holes went totaly crazy).

PS, can the devs see the location (like 0,0,0,0 or something) of a certain player? That might help alot trying to figure out what happens.

Same thing happened to me in s12, except no killing was involved. At least not that I know of. I was on my way to the red homesectore 'cept when I got to the wh I couldn't go through. I just sat there and no def bots came to attack me. I would have killed as many red 'civs as possible 'cept I only had proxy mines. Not the best offensive weapon. When I logged off and back on I was somewhere WAY out drifting. That would support the server-doesn't-know-where-you-are theory. But then why would it keep your weapons properly synked? Does the server keep track of them differently?

More info:

I believe the invisible person is unseen by anyone in the sector. The other day I logged onto Vendetta and bagged a trader with flares. He said that I was invisible. Earlier, a gold (sadistic child I think) had tested using flares while invisible and they hadn't done damage, but they did for me.

I believe the bug is caused by quitting in a station, then rejoining and exiting, because that's what I've done the only time I've ever experienced it.

I still think it's bad sync since there's no known event to cause it.
Why don't you dig your logs for errors, DEEEEEVS?:P

We looked in our logs and didn't see much that would help us figure it out. There are a couple leads that we're looking into though.

I once became invisible in sector 3. I warped from 6 to 3 and started the /logoff count-down while sector 3 was warping. I immediately reconnected, and upon loading, found that the bots ignored me. I also found that I couldn't grab the flag or warp out. Signing off and back on (but not quitting) solved the problem.

like i said, dont blame me i dont use flares... hehehe

Cool, I was invisible too today :)

Happened in s11, if you see: Newbie destroyed [NPC] bla, a lot of times.. it was when I was invisible :)

O, it happened btw when I left s17 and entered s11. I was going to the station, bouncing in it a bit, and then tought: 'hmm, I wonder where the 'press the activate key to dock' message went?'
