when I go to full screen it seems like the brightness has just been turned up and as soon as I go back to window size everything works fine. any ideas?

Your gamma is set to 19 according to your bug report.
Go to Options->Video and scroll all the way down. There should be a Gamma setting. Set it to around 9 or so.
If you can't find the setting, look in the config.ini for gamma=19 and change it to 9 or so.
