Latency
Not sure if "Bugs" is the right forum section for this question, but since I cannot find a more suitable section...
Before investing too much of my time into this game, I'd like to know if latency is a big issue in the game. I do not live in EU/US (where I assume the game servers are located) so I should be having at least some 200ms ping to the servers.
Will this greatly affect my performance in the game? Especially using light ships (since that tends to be my playstyle). I'm loving it so far but have only been fighting NPCs and I'm worried that it might become unplayable when I start PvP.
Are there any players who have a high ping to the game servers? How do they get along?
Thanks :P

If the ping is consistent, it seems to work "okish" till you reach ~240 in my experience. What kills the fun is latency differences for a small time window (latency spikes). If you have none of those, you should be mostly fine (you didnt say what your latency is). If you have em, you'll jump around in space like most of the laggy mobile players.
Thanks for the reply, people in chat didn't seem to understand how ping works.
Using the ping command in-game shows I have a latency of 300ms, which is normal for US servers in other games.
But yeah my ping is very stable, so I guess it should be fine :) I ran into a warthog spamming rockets at me earlier and he kept jumping all over the place so I couldn't shoot him before he got away (so much for getting a player kill on my second day). So that was lag on his side then? Good to hear.

No, if you have lag spikes, both player will see the other person jumping around.
An easy way to test is in a light ship versus an arklan guardian. The more distortion in the gatlin aim of the arklan, the worse for pvp. If you just see you get hit but dont see the shots (or they are far away), you probably suffer very high latency (300ms aint) or recurring lag spikes.
At 350ms the internal correction of the game starts breaking and you can pretty much forget pvp.
If you dont suffer latency spikes, i'd recommend to not use WiFi and/or cheap routers. Those will add a lot of latency.

Thanks loads for the info, just what I wanted to know. And yeah I'm using a solid connection to the internet, so it's just geography that's adding a latency.
I managed to get a proper fight finally, X-1 Valk tried to dogfight at close range, so I was able to see how PvP goes on my connection. Had no stuttering at all and he ran away on low hp so I guess that's a pass for my connection ^^ Thanks Xeha
P.S.: Offtopic but I need a guild, any good ones who wouldn't mind a newb? I'm Red

VO website -> Login -> Guilds
I'd recommend to read trough the description and meet some of the guilds people ingame before you apply.

I see a list of guilds but how do I contact them? Memorise their leaders' names and wait for them to appear in chat?
Some guilds will have links to their own websites or forums where they accept applications. For others, you can either contact them in-game or leave a post in the RP forum.
