Dialup Lag
hehe, ok Thanks All =) I didnt see another post on it. And see so much abuse in the game about it, that its no funny. So figured i would post.
Ok this post is probably going to cause some flaming, But here we go anyway =)
Ive found since the new server has gone in, that when a few users are in a sector, my lag jumps rather high, and im far more likely to be rocket spamed without even a chance of avoiding them.
When its just one user fireing them at me, say a rag with a heap of gemmis etc, I can avoid without turbo, as long as there is only 2 of us in the sector.
A lot of dialup users end up flaming the rag that used the rockets in game, when its not really the other guys fault, hes just trying to win =)
It happend to Mazo today, another 56Ker just like me, I was in a valt, and saw him get taken out by the rockets, however i didnt see them untill he was reported as dead. Im wondering if any steps have been undertaken to keep the game playable for 56K users, ie timeouts etc. So that we can actually servive the seeker wars, and have a chance of being competative.
Id also like to know if any other 56Kers have had the same experiances as Mazo and I with the Old server compared to the new.
Im not asking people to stop using the rockets, just hopeing that the devs can do something for us to help stop our seeker death. Its especilly bad when a user is attempting to greif a dialup user who is just trying to leave a station

Yes, I know. I will be fixing this soon. The reason is simply that the prioritization of events is the simplest thing that could possibly work right now -- there's no position-based priorities, which is what the old server had. I'll be adding that after I finish up my current work of making it stable and memory-efficient (I think I'm done, just doing lots of verification testing. This will be released tonight).
The compression tables badly need to be regenerated, too. There's a lot of tuning work yet to be done. I'm still in the coarse stages.
