Untargeted Swarms Have Variable Velocity
I was experimenting with doing a crit in a stormed sector and discovered that chaos swarms cannot be stacked if you do not have a target set because their velocity increases depending on the firing ship's velocity at launch (behaving like flares). When a target is set, the speed is constant at 80m/s regardless of the ship's velocity at launch.
I recorded some test data to confirm. This is with an untargeted asteroid 2000m away, using chaos swarms (travel toward the asteroid at the constant speed indicated, quickly untarget and fire at a distance of 2000m away, and count the time until the swarms hit the roid):
* Ship speed 0m/s, time to impact: 25 sec, 80m/s projectile speed
* Ship speed 32m/s, time to impact: 17.7 sec, 113m/s projectile speed
* Ship speed 100m/s, time to impact: 11.5 sec, 174m/s projectile speed
I would expect the swarms to always travel 80m/s straight ahead if there isn't a target set when launched.
I noticed similar behavior with untargeted geminis, and I would assume it applies to all swarm/missile types.

All missiles and rockets work this way.
I'll be so pissed if this is also a "bug" that the devs want to fix. This is an awesome feature, Meridian -- especially when you are going max speed and you let off yer swarms! weeeeeeeee!
Yeah, I don't think this really needs "fixing" either. The way it is now, you can still hit a turboing ship with swarms or geminis by untargeting it and launching them dumbfire if you've got good aim.
Yeah, leave this one alone please.
Please don't fix this.
It's not really a bug either, this is closer to the physics engine than any other "feature".
Not a bug, unguided swarms handy.
Hah.
I remember flying with Scuba Steve/Kavec who used to pirate with untargeted stingrays in ye olde days of the 13 sector universe, because they did more damage and were faster than jackhammers.
And some german red guy, who's name I forgot, liked to use untargeted tri-geminis on a valk to kill quite a few players.
