Tridents and NFZ

Feb 03, 2014 TheRedSpy link
Step 1) Exit your trident in a No fire zone where you are admired and homed

Step 2) Shoot your trident once with any damaging weapon

Step 3) Panic, because you are now TempKOS for shooting yourself and you've been rehomed elsewhere

Step 4) Hop in your trident in a panic to avoid station guards and aernas, your tempKOS standing has now been transferred to your capship and all the defenses are shooting at it

Step 5) Undock from your capship and flee, you may escape from the sector, but your capship is done for.

You shouldnt be able to trigger tempKOS by shooting your own trident, and even if you decide that you should be able to cause tempKOS by shooting your trident because it's a no-fire-zone, it shouldn't transfer after you get back in. One of these things must be a bug.

it shouldn't transfer after you get back in.

That would be so exploitable its not even funny.

A better way to deal with it would be to make it so you can't trigger the NFZ by shooting yourself or logical extensions of yourself. Does flaring yourself in the face cause TempKOS?

Or maybe just don't shoot in the NFZ...

What is so hard to understand about the concept of a "No Fire Zone"? The station does not and should not care who you are firing on. You are firing inside the no-fire-zone, and therefor are putting the station in danger, and they respond accordingly.

That said, the SF should be updated to only attack the trident when you are actually inside the trident. If you undock, they should stop attacking the trident and attack you instead.

I'm with Rin. This isn't a bug.

Well, it shares your standings. Why would the SF not attack a ship that is marked KOS?

Yes the station does care who you are firing on rin, because you can detonate your hull by firing sunflares into the station all you like, it doesn't care if you avalon yourself on the station or test the effectiveness of your iceflares.

Consistency, some people think its important.

Also, today I attacked a pilot in the NFZ where my trident was also parked. The station turrets and defenses completely ignored me and killed my trident instead, I was able to completely go about my business while they attacked the trident instead of me.

It's a bug.

I think that's got more to do with the NPCs being single-minded and not managing resources effectively. Same issue with how the Conq station turrets all attack one person and ignore everyone else until that first person is out of range, goes behind a roid, or dies. If you violate the NFZ, both you and your Trident should be attacked.

Just for the record, I accidentally flared my own Trident instead of repairing it in the NFZ of a station yesterday and it did not trigger the NFZ. Are you sure the first time you did this you didn't hit a convoy NPC?

"Yes the station does care who you are firing on rin, because you can detonate your hull by firing sunflares into the station all you like, it doesn't care if you avalon yourself on the station or test the effectiveness of your iceflares."

I am of the opinion that that should change. Especially when it involves hitting the station itself.

ARF: Positive, it was definitely the trident

The no-fire zone is there to protect pilots from other pilots. I know it would be more realistic, but at the moment the inconsistency bugs me. One way or another, please.

Hmm. We need to test this more.

I definitely think the SF should attack your capship as well as your undocked fighter. If not, you're basically giving anyone who has a Trident a free rep/reload base that they can use to terrorize station NFZs for long periods of time without the potential for serious losses.
