Trident Missile Turret Bug

Jan 24, 2014 Inevitable link
So we were having some fun in b8 and then this player owned trident came in... I don't want to name any names (Azurea). Next thing you know it was shooting firecrackers missiles nonstop.. I mean one right after the other and the other and the other non stop. No reload and like 100 missiles in the sector at once. Well I'm like this is cool what a great defense system. So to counter it I get a cool idea thinking I could just go hide in the tridents dock and those missiles will hit his ship instead of mine. Well that was wrong. Instead some how his missiles idspispod'ed right through the trident into my ship. So that doesn't make sense.

A.) No ship should have unlimited rocket or missile ammo
B.) Maybe there should be a reload time on turrets?
C.) IDSPISPOD is a no no.. Missiles shouldn't be able to magically go through objects especially without detonating the missile or doing any damage to the said ship.

Yeah, missiles go through the dude who fires them. If you equip swarms on a normal ship, come to a complete stop in space, use the sector list to target yourself, and fire, they'll fan out, loop around, and fly right through you to repeat the process until they run out of fuel. It looks pretty sweet.

This is also why you can fly through your own stack when stacking. It works with flares too -- you can't hit yourself with your own avalon, for example. The splash damage from your missile/flare will still hit you when it does detonate, of course. It just won't detonate on your own ship.

Neat as it is, I agree that they should be changed so that you can detonate your own ordinance. That would add an extra layer of fun to stacking and such. (Probably will have to have a fuse type deal where it can go through your ship for the first second or two, just to be safe when firing missiles at high speed.)

As for the missile spam the trident was doing, that's because you can reload a missile turret by exiting and re-entering the turret. Or at least that's how it worked the last I checked; not certain it hasn't changed since then. That's definitely something that needs to be fixed eventually. For now though I find it pretty hilarious.

So I knew you'd complain about this lol.
I was using the turrets myself and switching between them quickly. Each turret does have a refire time and no single turret exceeded that.

A) Yes there should until the trident gets some kind of decent weaponry.
B) No unless A is not implemented and the trident gets some decent weaponry.
C) dunno wtf that is, but I agree with not being able to go through yourself. It's weird.

"that's because you can reload a missile turret by exiting and re-entering the turret"

Yes you can reload, but doing so in the same turret does not reset the refire delay.

I really wasn't trying to complain about it as much as just pointing out that it is kind of flawed at the moment. Being able to shoot rockets like that really does make the trident invincible. Which makes any kind of an encounter whether it's with a group or solo absurd. The trident is a trade ship and not a battleship right?

I guess maybe I did have a complaint which was that its missiles could magically go through it's own ship. When those missiles can fire indefinitely there's really no counter to it except to just disengage which is lame and boring.

Now I understand this probably wont be a big concern considering the ratio of trident owners to non trident owners, but I do hope that sometime in the near future there will be a way to render the trident not so impregnable. Honestly, It could just stand still and shoot missiles endlessly and fend off a number of attackers. Has any Trident actually died since the chainsaw hornet fix? And if one has did the owner actually try to get away or use this unending missile defense?

You should be able to do exactly the same thing from a Moth, except only 75% as awesome due to having one less turret. Moths can move faster than tridents and potentially outrun any missiles fired. That would be an interesting fight to try...

Heh it is funny I havent seen a moth try that, but a moth wouldn't be able to do that long because they don't quite have the armor a trident does.

Groups can still kill tridents even with those crazy missile turrets if they know what they are doing.

The missile turret spam is pretty ineffective at killing anyone who isn't AFK...

Yes, yes, and yes. I have one thing to say about this: Power Cell Blaster

Also, chainsaws still work and put out massive amounts of damage. They just can't cheat anymore.
