Traders in rocks

Sep 21, 2013 Savet link
Spying on sectors is nothing new, but hiding in asteroids is dirty.

I was able to free the rock of its parasite after some trial and error of turboing towards an edge, burying my nose in the surface of the asteroid, and finally being able to target the player.

This took way too long, and had they not chosen an ice asteroid with reflection, we might never have found them. I understand wanting good intel better than most, but please do not exploit game mechanics to obtain it.

This is funny as fuck because you only report it when the traders do it back to you.

Back to me? i have never hidden a ship in an asteroid. I do not condone any of my men hiding in asteroids, and to my knowledge they do not do so. What are you referring to?

To be clear, I am referring solely to the practice of parking ships inside of objects which should not be park-insideable.

Want to park in a capital ship, station, deep space, etc? Go for it. That's part of the game.

What do you call a bug that is reported but remains unfixed for over a year?

A feature.

I hear this feature is going to be removed as soon as possible though but like, do you really expect the scourge of the planet TGFT to behave in a way that isn't entirely underhanded? Don't you remember Rhandome Mynah and his insta-logging XC? Howbout Kobyashi and his beam cannon MaudB?

TGFT are as dodgy as the collision system; as dodgy as the leg that kierky purports to stand on. Savet's never used this particular feature. I used to all the time though because it's basically unavoidable.

So, the colored ice roids were a feature?
Lmines and Gatling causing client lockups was a feature?

It sure seems buggy to me that you can get inside an asteroid without taking any damage and just sit there. You'd figure even if you lagged or glitched inside an object the game would force you out of it to prevent two things from occupying the same space.
Sep 22, 2013 draugath link
Naw, forget pushing you out of it. If you manage to find your way into a roid and the game finally figures it out, you should just blow up, like you probably would have done on impact.

To be fair, TRS, I was not yet in TGFT. 'Twas the eve of VO's 10th anniversary I attacked the most vocal player in VO history with a blatant exploit, and thanks to your predictable and expedient report, all instances of those beams were purged from player inventories within days. Mission accomplished.

Gravy: you get to say you beat the no-win scenario.

Beam cannons are not a bug, they actually are a feature. Albeit, a long-removed feature.
Honestly though, they aren't that bad. They've got an inaccuracy factor like Gatlings do and use a lot of energy. Capgauss is much worse.

i never saw this purported beam cannon

Please take note that RED knows bugs by watching TGFT and ITAN exploit them.

If people exploit bugs, report it. I do.

Yes ARF,

I just love the irony of this whole topic. It was only reported when TRADERS did it? What about that whole SCIN bullshit? Kopia, don't speak unless your mouth is cleared of shit. RED were the first ones to exploit this.
Sep 25, 2013 Pizzasgood link
/me hands Kierky a spatula, and reminds him that people of all colors, makes, and models have been violating asteroids since well before TRS even heard of VO, let alone the formation of RED.

Stupid bugs and oversights are stupid bugs and oversights. They're stupid whether used by Itani, Serco, UIT, pirates, traders, butchers, bakers, or lollypop makers. I don't care if Incarnate is adulterating with the Queen of England inside the asteroids, it's still stupid.

So quit whining about who uses them and bitch about the fact that they're usable at all. This is the forum for bugs, not mediocre roleplaying.

RED were the first ones to exploit this.

umm, "Phlegethon's One-Eyed Get" used to hide inside a roid in Latos H-2 for weeks at a time.
and Solra had some semi-disconnect hack to get fully trapped inside roids like 4-5 years ago.

or are you talking about how the SCIN bots managed a player spotter network with rolling log-ins?
Is that worse than a plugin that polls the sensor log and buddy list of anyone using it to get player locations?
Sep 26, 2013 Kierky link
It is worse when the methods used are not supposed to happen within the game. They were run on friend keys, and abused the roid structure and also made it impossible to find them due to rolling logons.
Sep 26, 2013 TheRedSpy link
I make no apologies whatsoever for rampantly abusing this bug.

You cannot avoid its abuse in the normal course of gameplay. You often accidentally run right through an asteroid or a station as if it was made of nothing.

It borks the AI pathways.
It borks the radar.
It borks the damage model when you sometimes get damaged and sometimes take absolutely no damage.

This is the worst bug in VO hands down.

The fact that Kierky thinks its cool or appropriate to point fingers at his in-game opponents shows just how much of a bad sport he is. Shameful.

Hypocrite. The only way we see it is if someone abuses it..
