Wierd bug
It happened in Latos D-5.

Notice how I traveled 20m and the roid went behind me, yet it says the roid is 900m away. The radar says the roid is right in front or behind me. When I flew back and forth, the "roid" went from the forwards radar to the backwards radar etc. It targeted a big roid.

This often happens on larger asteroids. Has since I started.
Are you somehow inside the roid? The distance indicator is your distance to the surface of the asteroid, not its center of mass. Maybe that's why you're seeing the values as they are.
No, I wasn't inside the roid. I targeted the roid and on the radar, it said it was right next to me, when in reality it was 900m away. Even the target leadoff said it was right there.
this has allways been the case for large ice roids
Ah yeah, ok. So the targeting reticule uses the position of the roid (which may not be inside the roid if the roid is concave or has a hole through it).
