3Minute Shutdown ERROR
dont know why it started happening but it did. i can load everything in vendetta just fine, but once i'm in it takes about 3 minutes before my whole system, MB HardDrives and all, just shutsdown. This is from the errors.log file minus the chat:
[Fri Oct 10 13:03:26 2003] Found driver: "OpenGL Reference GKGL driver". Type 5, Version 21.0. Load @0x08267248

Found 0 joystick(s)
osssound: ospace info: fragstotal=8, fragsize=8192
osssound: dspbuf = 0x49303000
OSS sound initialized: 44100Hz, 16bit stereo, 371ms buffer
LoadGKMeshes: Can't load 'tech_beacon_01_lod2' in 'gaf/tech_beacon_01_lod2.dfs'
LoadGKMeshes: Can't load 'ship_furie_hull' in 'gaf/ship_furie_hull.dfs'
i'm assuming that the "Can't load"s might be a problem but not shure if that is it.

hellooooo! any devs out there?
This should be in bugs.
The devs are hard at work getting ready for the next release. They will resurface soon. Keep in mind that guild is a VERY small company working on a shoestring. Patience.
This should indeed be in "Bugs"

In the meantime, my 2 cents:
It appears you have a video card issue. There have been some reports of driver issues with the 5200 (in general, not just with Vendetta), so you may want to check that you have the latest driver, or if you have the latest driver - roll back to the previous driver. If that fails, try uninstalling the driver completely and let your OS try to cope with it. I'm not all that familiar with Linux, so I'm not certain how it will react.
There have been other reports of people having a 350watt power supply and needing a larger one after installing the FX5200. Lastly, there have been some reports of heat sensitivity - blow a fan in there if all else fails.

Yeah, Linux nvidia drivers have always had problems.
If you have Windows, try it there and see if the problem persists.
Otherwise try different versions of the nvidia video drivers like the Forum Moderator suggests.

i have never had any problems with NVIDIA drivers and linux what so ever. all my other games play just fine.
Nonetheless, try what we suggested.
it was tried as i posted in the linux forum. something to note, the problem didnt occur until after the 3.3.3 update.
well i think i've figured it out. the problem wasnt the drivers as i thought. it was tweaking them. apparently they are geared towards Pentium based machines, so i edited my LILO boot loader for AMD and so far havent had a problem.
Huh, interesting.
You mean the "mem=nopentium" thing? Heh. Get kernel 2.6. It's been permananently fixed. I don't exactly know what it is. I have an Athlon T-Bird and I never needed the line under any of the many Linux's I've had here (kernel 2.2 - kernel 2.6)
