Well I was mentoring an itani and he wanted to go kill the sercos without getting combat 3 so we went over to one of the contested sectors without taking the mission. The result was that both of us (hes itani, serco KOS) could kill as many sercos as we liked without the bots turning on us at all. It was kind of ridiculous as you could easily turn the tide of the war and kill a ton of the serco/itani cappies or ships without them trying to fight back or even attempting to maneuver out of the way of your fire. It's as if they ignore you completely. I believe a similar thing happens in hive skirms, but they will eventually get the point and send an assault after you (immediately in the levi sector).

If you don't take the mission, I don't think the casualties from you count.
