New ghost ships! I'm seeing stuff!
Now I can prove I'm not a wacko.
Here're 2 screenies of that darn ghost ship.
It is NOT a robotnation 99999 bounty ship!
It has no nation. No name. No score. NO STATS AT ALL.
I'm very sorry I took only 2 screenies and so far away from the ship. (I had a mineball which was about to timeout).
Noone else exept me seemed to see it...
A guide was also on. He didn't seem to notice/see that ship either.
Here're the pics:

I think if you zoom in by 200%-300% it's still clear.
I think that ship was a hog... meh.
*EDIT*
WTF?! The first time I saw it (and ignored it) it WAS a hog!!! Now when I zoomed into my pics I saw it was a Hornet!
Btw, I could not damage it. I wasn't lagging either.

I wish you had let the mine ball go and had attended to the "bug" instead so I could have seen it myself. It's hard to make any sort of definitive statement about the screen dumps. The ship is there both visually and on your radar.
Hornet? It was the ghost of Arolte coming back to haunt you. Karma, dude. Karma!
What I noticed was that you had the ship selected but the Target information in the upper right said (none).
Very interesting. I'll keep an eye out for that sort of thing.

/me points out that he's a ghost.

Me and Asp had a similar experience a while ago... I think we saw the same bus... but they were in different locations. The first picture is an animation of Asp shooting a bus that from my point of view isn't there. All his shots just stopped at a point.
The third is a picture of me selecting a ship that appeared to be somewhere inside the roid. (note the second picture doesn't work... and I only had 2 pics, I'm not sure why I mailed 3 to busmaster)

Chances are it's the hyperspace bug. The victim of the hyperspace bug will often be seen as a ghost for everyone else. From the victim's perspective, however, that person is really being pushed around within the sector at high speeds. Yes, it's the same bug that pushes you 1414771 km away from the center of the sector uncontrollably. I just affectionately call it the hyperspace bug.
Upon logging back in you'll be at the last location before you bugged. It sounds to me like an out of sync type of error between the client and the server. It's been around for a loooong time. The only reason nobody mentioned it in this particular case was probably because it happened to a newbie who had no idea what was going on anyway.

Many years ago, about the same time of year, there was once an ace pilot whose name was all but forgotten. Rumor has it that he could figure out how to kill people with one shot of any weapon. But one day he was up against all 15 bots at once and there was a terrible battle. Many other pilots helped but they all died within seconds. Finally there was just 2 standing. The ace pilot and the one remaining bot. The chase went on for what seemed hours until the bot managed to sneak around him and, knowing that it wouldn't be able to win thought that a draw would ensure the pilot wouldn't come out alive, rammed the pilot with full turbo. A huge exposion that shook the very foundations of space was felt at that same moment cracking asteroids and blowing up planets, some of which are now but small areas of rocks that can be seen in some sectors. The tale that is now told is that at certain seemingly random times around this time of year a ghostly ship is seen and most pilots nowdays attribute it to the ace pilot's ghost looking for revenge.
If you encounter such a sight, I would recommend to turn the other way lest he mistakes you for the bot that rammed him so long ago.

I saw a ghost ship in S9 today right near the station. It was a grey bus, it had no nation, no name, no score, and I was the only one who could see it/shoot it. Everyone else just flew right through it.
I got some pics, one with my ship pos. displayed, but these also somehow mysteriously dissappeared off my hard drive! I think the ghost ship didn't want his identitiy being revealed.
The strange thing was that Rocket Cow! ran up to me and issued against me, but when he did the splash got the ghost ship and it dissapeared.
Sorry I don't have the screens, but Magus and Boing! were there too. They saw my shots explode in empty space and saw me bumping against something invisible.
