mouse movements jittery and delayed
Since update 1.8.208 (mouse movement issues, mouse jitter, mouse delay, mouse dead spots) fire buttons on mouse delayed or intermittently don't work or don't fire right away.
I deleted the config.ini and the wga with fresh download of vo to try it; and removed all plugins with no effect.
// Linux 64bit client
// wireless logitech keyboard/mouse K350 keyboard and M510 7 button mouse
// works perfectly outside of VO and previously worked inside of VO with no problems
Symptom mimicks what seems like dead battery in the optical mouse or perhaps mouse ball dirty before the days of optical mouses. But there is no problems at all with this topic prior to last updates. And no other problems with this in any other application.
I re logged to vo after the vo server updates. I was online at the time and noticed this on re-entering the game right off.
Mouse movement had dead spots or delays. Or could be described as freezing of mouse. At login screen this occured, in station and in space.
At login the mouse freeze when trying to move across the login screen to a button but not as persistent as when logged into the game.
Station mouse movement is bad, but turning the ship with the mouse is the worst of all.
Turning the ship with mouse look on/off makes not difference, mouse does not continue in the direction of movement but freezes or delays. Left mouse firing or right mouse fireing is delayed at times sometimes does not fire at all. Chat is also delayed and text typing is also laggie since this last update
Oh almost forgot - button clicking is like this too sometimes clicking a button in station or options etc. does not click many times.Frequent enough to be annoying.
Additionally chat is super delayed mimicking lag.
//And to restate this was not present prior to the restart of the vo server and persists after computer restart to the following day in NW and is still present
I hope this describes it well enough sorry for the long descriptions
Thanks

I've noticed recently that VO gets very jittery if I'm holding down keys on both my normal PS/2 keyboard and my Logitech G13 (Linux uinput device) simultaneously. Not sure which patch it was since this started, but it might be related. I'm also on Linux x86-64.
Windows 32bit client same effect. Just tested a reinstalled Windows XP 32bit system with fresh VO install as well.
Same effect on the 32bit client since recent vo update as well. Just FYI
I was in the Options settings just putting in all my keyboard and joystick settings and the the mouse would freeze just moving across the top tabs to make changes.
Where is says: mouse/keyboard/joystick in the options settings.
However, same mouse jitters/delay all the way around as described above on the windows 32bit client as well
FYI

Condition still present:
Upon login and at the login screen mouse is delayed and hesitant.
In station, and in ship.
No way to combat with this condition currently.
I wonder if the new vo server updates has some conflict with my wireless keyboard/mouse combo I will try a wired mouse today to see if there is any effect.
I doubt this has anything to do with it but the keyboard/mouse is working perfectly outside the game.
I'll post back the results.

You're using wireless? I'd definitely switch that out.
I plugged in a PS2 mouse I had laying around and no effect same symptoms.
I never had a problem with any wireless keyboard or mouse but since this topic occured I figured I would try something new.
Same effect.
When turn the ship lets say left to right slow and continous the ship just sort of quites then resumes.
Same in station moving mouse to a button sometimes freezes then resumes.
Only started doing this after vo server restart/updates as I mentioned.
I'm assuming it's something to do with that at this point

Try turning off vsync in Options->Video
Sorry for these long responses
I have done all that can be adjusted ad nauseam. Paying close attention to /fps and /ping.
Both in game settings and desktop settings, both sync to vblank texturing and openGL, on linux and also compiz-settings-manager multitudes of settings refresh ad nauseam, refresh limits in game etc etc etc. And Windows with noticeable change to the graphics quality itself but NO changes to mouse movements subject.
Paying close attention to be sure to start the game after the gl setting so that I was sure that the changes would be in effect for new applications started.
Both windows and linux changes has no effect.
After reading further about mouse acceleration and mouse smoothing which appear to cause problems in some fast paced games that require accuracy.
But only for those games that have installed a mouse smoothing feature for their game, which in some games makes screens smoother and avoid any mouse jitter or delay, however in fast paced games google search results somewhat indicate this could be a problem
Again I don't really believe that is the problem because I do not fully understand how mouse smoothing features would work in game
All I can say is that I spend more time tweeking things to make this game work right then actually playing the game.
Again this particular problem was NEVER a problem before, although there was other previous problems that seemed to have worked themself out in the past with little effect from any changes that I made.
But this thing with the mouse is not bearable for game play. I test it daily to see if there is anything I can do to make changes that might fix this, and search google and read all about this type of effect with various multitudes of topics.
But all I can say is that after the last update whatever was happening prior to the update I had NO mouse issues. This occured directly after the update in which I was online at the time of the server restart. I logged in and noticed this issue instantly
To restate- mouse does not continue to move, in station, login screen, piloting. moving the mouse across the screen slowly to obvserve will just stop moving then resume moving again.
It's not all the time, but I would say 1 out of 4 mouse moves it is hesitant, delayed and frozen. turning the ship you can turn but then it just stops while still moving the mouse, then it resumes again.
More of a delay not a jitter, but sometimes the delay is longer then others. Sometimes only for .5 seconds or so, then other times it may freeze for 1-3 seconds then resume.
I think I'll just have to take a break from this for a while and check back in a month or so on this topic. It's really a time waister trying to make this thing work right.
If the game was not FUN to play I would not even be trying so hard to make it work.
Well thats all I know, I'm having trouble considering that it could still be something on my end when it was working perfectly literally minute prior to that server update mentioned above.
I'll check back if anyone might have any new info or something to try I'm happy to try it.

What video card do you have and was the driver for the card updated at about the same time you started experiencing the problem?
When you type /fps, you can then try /toggleframerategraph which will render a continuous graph on the screen (top of the screen is like 100fps and it's a logarithmic graph). If it is smooth then your framerate is consistent.
You can also try to limit the framerate in Options->Graphics to something like 30 or 60 to see if that helps.

Sorry for the delay in checking this post
I was manufacturing trident since mouse delay was really annoying in combat.
Anyhow new info
I have tried to change the framelimiter FPS = (various) and now have it set to 30FPS
Initially I did not see any results with all my attemps but for some reason after some major manufacturing and tired of hauling I decided to play around with this again
Mouse delay at 30FPS is gone, noticeably different and no idea why the FPS change for video would have anything to do with mouse movements, but it appears to have fixed the problem.
All that vsync messing around and allow flipping etc. did nothing noticeable
But I am very happy to report that for some reason setting the FPS to 30 which I have already done numerous times, but now has corrected the mouse delay this time.
Graphic quality does seem to suffer some but for now I think I can live with this as the mouse is now working perfectly so
I'll try slowly raising the FPS and see if I can determine a break point for this delay to occur
As far as setting the FPS way up to like 120 I get about 100FPS most of the time or maybe 80's and up depending on sector.
And thats with all other settings on max qualities etc.
I wish I knew why and how to increase the framerate without creating mouse delay
Thanks for the responds and happy to report the limiter does appear to have fixed this

Did you try setting the limiter higher and see if the problem comes back?
I would like to report that the issue is mostly gone but does occur only every so slightly now with the limiter set to 30FPS
I did notice it does happen on logout/quit screen appears, the mouse does freeze / delay again on that screen quite a bit.
Also keep in mind that no other applications or games are having this effect except for vo
Increasing the limiter to lets say 60FPS does reproduce the problem
I have not increased for a while now so I'll try again to reproduce and report back

Again, what video card do you have and are you using the latest drivers?
Some drivers have been known in the past to queue up many frames of video which caused the exact problem that you're describing.

Crap sorry I thought I answered this
It's the Nvidia GT240 PCIe
Driver is version : 280.13
and the latest is 295.20
So I can give that a try thanks
I thought I had the system set to install the latest as it comes out but I guess it didn't
P.S
I did move it to 60FPS and it did duplicate the problem but 30FPS is ok, I'll try the new driver, thanks

I updated to 295.20 driver version with no effect
Nvidia specifically identified that this versions had some fixes for things related to OpenGl applications etc.
Setting the fps limiter to 30 seems ok, but anything higher like 60,75,120 causes mouse delay but it does produce higher fps in the 80-100 ranges as usual
However, the mouse movement delay still persists at these higher fps settings.
Additionally the mouse still delays in stations, at login/quit screens, and nav maps etc. Pretty much various delays all the time in vo unless I set fps limit to 30 or below.
Also the mouse fireing since last nights updates appears to delay as well
For example:
Press and hold the left mouse button or joystick trigger to fire to unload a full energy round on bots and sometimes the firing just stops as if I let go of the button
I have to release and re-fire again, or sometimes is starts and stops firing on it's own with plenty of energy in the cell to fire weapons.
Sometimes might fire 2 shots and pause, then resume firing, or might quit fireing completely until I let off the trigger and fire again.
Anyhow FYI

Can you try a different mouse?
The client hasn't been updated in a few weeks so these changes that you are seeing seem to be pointing to problems with your computer.

Same issue on wired mouse and another machine
However, after vo server restart as of April 9, 2012 last night I noticed this morning right away the mouse delay seemed better and the game exits as it should now
When I login it takes a much longer time entering universe, for quit some time entering universe appears, I can live with that.
Once logged in mouse delay is gone, and even the jittery video subject seems gone too, very smooth now.
I increased the fps back up to 60 from 30 and still no mouse delay or video jitter or blurring.
I did nothing and changed no equipment or software; and after server restart as of last night everything seems fixed
I don't know what was done that could have fixed it but these symptoms are gone on 3 separate desktops now so I'll keep my fingers crossed.
Thanks for the responses and look forward to getting back to combat now.

I'm wondering if this problem might not be related to the anti-cheating mechanisms the game has built in. According to VO's FAQ:
How do you prevent cheating?
In a fully realtime game such as this, preventing cheating is not a simple task. We have taken a multifold approach to this problem. To begin with, the network datasteam itself is heavily encoded. Secondly, all "critical" game data, such as the user's character, inventory and other stats are stored entirely server-side. This information can only be modified by the server, and is secure from tampering. More frequently-updated data, such as the user's ship position, is sanity-checked by the server (making speed cheats and the like rather futile). Some cases are also passively logged for possible administrative action, with the suspected accounts automatically flagged for continued scrutiny by the server. Should a user be discovered to be cheating, this would be grounds for banning their account.
I know some games have built in mechanisms to counteract certain kinds of uber-supped up gaming mouses, and if the server is trying to counteract a "speed boost" your getting off of your mouse it seems reasonable to me to assume that that might cause your screen to jump around. Just a thought.

I very highly doubt that it's any kind of anti-cheating silliness. Ship rotations are limited by torque and mass. It makes absolutely no difference how fast your mouse moves once you exceed the ship's limit, which doesn't even require fast movements on a normal mouse. So I don't see how moving the mouse inhumanly fast could trigger any kind of anti-cheat response.
It is not due to anti-cheating stuff on our end.
