Joystick config help.

Oct 24, 2011 katofmine link
i recently bought a Logitech Extreme3DPro, and it rocks. there is the regular held stick, of course, as well as a thumstick on top. I set both the thumbstick and the joystick to control pitch and turn and configured the .ini so that the thumbstick is super sensitive, for quick turns, and the joystick less so for precision aiming. My problem is that the sticks cannot be used in unison so if my joystick is slightly tilted, the thumbstick ceases to work. i think it has something to do with them both being set to the same functions in-game and not a problem with the stick itself. Any help would be very very much appreciated. Thanks

you're right, its because they're both set to the same function, try setting one to strafing instead

strafing is not what i need from those controls. there must be a way around this, anyone with knowledge of the game writing or more detail about configuration through a lua the ini (im a dunce in this area) should be able to help me find a way around it. it will be much appreciated.

So what you need is a way to make the thumbstick (aka hat switch) override the joystick. I have no idea how to do that.

You could probably make a plugin that toggles the stick, but I don't think you could make it automatic. If we could still control thrust from lua it might be possible (by having the plugin bound to the hat switch and set to disable the js and then send the appropriate turn command while pressed, and enable the js when unpressed), but we can't do that anymore.

Maybe it would be possible to, rather than using the hat switch for fast turning, have a plugin temporarily modify the calibration of the joystick so that when you hold some key or button the calibration changes to make turning operate at full blast with just a small amount of stick movement.

might try playing with the calibration a bit first before you go crazy with other stuff. Also duel sticks work well for some players.....

For some reason it just started working after constant recalibration of my right stick(Logitech Extreme3DPro)'s various sensitivities in the .ini file... Now to find some duct tape to keep the darn thing still while i learn to aim with it! So PaKettle, you were right, somehow. Thanks everyone for the input :)

And i do use duel sticks: the left stick being a Logitech Attack 3 who's X and Y are set to left/ right strafe and up/ down strafe, trigger set to boost, and the four top thumb buttons set to accel, decel, and roll.
