Teller-Ulam Mine Mission

May 25, 2011 unpocoloco link
I completed the BioCom Teller-Ulam mine missions in Latos I-8 and had the mine on my ship en route to UIT space. When I exited the station, I was attacked by a turret and killed before I could react.

I have a key to the station and had operated for quite a few minutes with no problem, yet I was attacked for reasons I don;t comprehend.

Secondly, when I immediately made my way back to the station to see if I could pick up my cargo and mine launcher, nothing was present though I had returned within about 3 minutes and I had seen several items before being returned to my home station in Dau.

Also, I was under the impression that once a crafting missions like this was completed, I would be able to buy these mine launchers from a BioCom station thereafter, the way we are supposed to be able to buy a capship we have built once.

I would appreciate it if I could get my Teller-Ulam mine launcher back without having to go to all the work or running the mission again. And we should be able to buy the launcher once we've built the first one.

Thanks!

No you shouldn't be able to buy it. The whole point of manufacturing it is to manufacture it, not buy it. If you want to just pay the money to get one, track down a player with one to spare. I have one that I'd gladly sell for 20 million credits. If that seems too much, try shopping around. Perhaps try Ryan Reign or Nahin Lor.

Capships are the exception, not the rule. They will have the insurance buyback feature because they are so horrendously painful to craft. We're talking months of work. A teller-ulam, on the other hand, can be built in one day (assuming you have the conq station access and have the standings needed to enter nation space to buy the parts).

All other manufacturable things (the TU, widomaker, all the other weapons, the superlight) are craft-only.

As for being shot when you exited the station, I don't know what's up with that. I haven't used a conquerable station in a couple months, but I never experienced anything like that. The only time a station ever shot at me when it shouldn't have was just as I was warping out during an ion storm, but I think that bug has been fixed?

Did you launch the mine? NPCs go crazy around mines and attack them on the spot. A TU mine would have gone off and killed whatever NPC was attacking it, which marks you temp-KOS even though you're a keyholder. Try bumping a turret some time.

I remember accidentally launching a pair of mines on a missed approach to a dock, but I thought I had picked them both back up.

May I PLEASE get my TU mine launcher back?

As for pizzasgood's comment about building one in a day, I would like to see ANYONE acquire the large number of hive-drop processor cores in one day on top of the stuff you have to both mine and purchase all the while having to get past the rats that both frequent and monitor (via their bot Phleg) Latos H-2.

It isn't possible to fire weapons for about the first second after launching, so I doubt you accidentally deployed one. The reason it wasn't there when you came back is because weapons that are equipped have a probability of being dropped on death (something like 1 in 5).

You might want to open a support ticket considering it seems that it was due to a bug that you were destroyed and lost it.

"I remember accidentally launching a pair of mines on a missed approach to a dock, but I thought I had picked them both back up."

I am not aware that you can pick mines back up after launching them. I have never tried though...

But yeah, if you honestly think there was a bug involved, the best course of action is to open a support ticket. Those work better for getting the devs to take action on an individual account.

As for the one-day thing, I did forget about the queen cores. Getting them together in one day would be difficult. They may take a day on their own. But everything else is doable in a day.

The guardian and artemis cores can be gotten easily from hive skirmishes (critical and central are good places to go for drops), and for the dentek cores just go relive your newbie days and mass murder some dentek collectors in nation space. (You can do that for the artemis ones too, but I find they are very frequent drops in critical skirmishes.)

As for the mining, it's trivial. Just get a rape rag and mine the crap out of some carbonic and ferric roids, then grab a moth and scoop up the ore. Whoopty doodle. The other ores needed are in significantly smaller quantities and shouldn't take long at all. I guess I can't really say how long it would take to mine the pentric ore as I don't actually know off the top of my head where any pentric roids are (though I know I have at least a few logged in targetless), but it seems like every time I go hunting in the Pelatus/Edras area I find (and loot) craptons of NPC convoys hauling pentric ore, so I don't exactly consider it to be rare. Anyway, you only need 40 cu, so once you know where some roids are you can surely gather that up pretty quickly.

As for the commodities, most of them are available in Azek. There are a few you'd need to get from Ukari and Dau. There are a pair of items that come from Verasi though, which takes a bit, but not really that long. Just a few trips. Home up there, ship a load down, grab a freebus, and /explode back up. Repeat until done.

Now, what about the pirate threat while you're hauling all these goodies? Cake. Just pay them off. One payment is good for 24 hours.

It is a lot of work, yes, but other than the queen cores, it can all be done in one day, and then another day for the queen cores. And of course you may be able to find somebody to sell you queen cores, or perhaps hire some people to help you kill queens to find them.

You can't pick mines back up after you launched them. That definitely did it. Probably killed a station guard and pissed off the turrets.

Way to go dude!

Did they remove the original biocom mission?
