Training station turrets don't shoot KOS players

Feb 26, 2011 wordan link
If someone creates a character and gains KOS while still in training sector, the turrets don't shoot them. This results in nuisance alts ganking new players.

A 24 hour delay on character deletion would also help in this situation, so a new alt can't jump right back in after gaining KOS.

(Edit: Just thought I'd summarise the points posted, verified by testing)
You can pick up a weapon that was suicide droped into the sector and kill anyone, regardless of standing. FF restrictions don't seam to be applied.

Turrets in training sector don't shoot at players with KoS standing. (if they did this would help with the problems caused by the lack of FF restrictions)

Connie turrets don't damage players(but do damage friendly NPCs?).

Training blasters don't damage players.

You can tank your standing by killing friendly NPC's with training blasters.

All that needs to be done is make it impossible for players to lose standing in the training sector, then freindly fire will prevent them from hurting players.

It seams you can damage other players with the default standing

The loophole is that only the training blasters are damage-limited to 4% against players while in the training sector. No-license-required weapons like the Plasma Blaster MkII right on up to the widowmaker can be suicide-dropped into the training sector in the cargo hold of other players' vessels, and can damage players and turrets. LNH, the friendly fire restriction of the capitol system does not seem to be applied to the training sectors, so THAT needs to be in place too. (I think they WANTED newbs to see the "Nation Protected" warning if they shot & damaged players). The only consequence of gaining KOS is that you can't dock, and if you didn't take training III before going on your rampage, you are trapped till you die or delete.

So sure, light up them turrets on Hated & KOS people, but: what about wing-buggers?

then maybe restrict the training station to only allow the ecquipping of the training blaster and free battery

You can kill players with the Connie gauss regardless of standing ( i think).

Has this ever actually been a problem?

Connie gauss doesn't damage players in the training sector from my experience.

I saw several players killed yesterday while i was in the training sector. Not good for new players.

Why is FF on?

Connie Gauss can kill friendly NPC's like the bots-in-training or station turrets, resulting in a pretty nasty standing loss.

I tested it with slime, you can't kill players with the cap gauss, but i didn't tank my standing.

Once you tank your standing by gaussing the turrets and/or the NPC fighters, then you can cap gauss the noobs.

This was not a problem back when NPCs were mistakenly forgiving all kills, effectively making it so you didn't lose faction for killing them. So back to LNH's comment, why not just make the training sector NPCs forgive all kills. Not only would it prevent this exploit to circumvent the friendly fire restrictions in order to grief newbs, but it would also keep the newbs from losing standing with their home faction because of one stray cap gauss shot.

And the turrets in the training sector probably should be invulnerable anyway.

Took a peek again in the UIT newb zone today: saw a newb with a UIT dislike standing. He was seriously trying to work thru all tutorials, and was really bummed to learn he'd be better off starting again with a fresh character.

meridian, at the moment you can kill players using suicide dropped weapons in the training sector regardless of your standing.

Mom said he fixed that already, though I haven't gone noobing to test yet.
