I've had quite a few full freeze-ups quitting the game this week (since update 1.8.146). Is this a new feature to keep players logged in? :)
I can log out the character fine, but hitting quit kills it. If I'm in fullscreen mode, there is no escape but a hard re-boot. I'm on Mac OS 10.6.4.

Often when I log out, in space or in a station, my computer freezes and I must hard boot my computer. Windows XP.
VO crashes on me sometimes when I quit but I've never needed to reboot. (10.6.4)
Yep, this happened to me twice yesterday, Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit. My PC did not lock up, but VO froze upon quitting. Could not alt+tab, could not open task manager, had to hit my PC's power button.

I've had lockup's before, but this is very re-creatable. And no, it's not bad ram. :p

Well. We can check into this. But generally speaking, VO is not capable causing a computer to fully hardlock on its own (per se, anyway; especially in windows 7 where a ctrl-alt-delete should still bring up the task amanger). This sort of issue is almost always caused by a driver or hardware problem. The whole architecture of protected memory space in operating systems prevents a single app from doing this sort of thing.
Anyway, we'll look into it.
[EDIT]: I am able to reproduce this issue on my home machine, although I definitely can do ctrl-alt-delete and bring up the task manager and kill the app (Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit). Sorry for the trouble, we'll track it down.

I only see a crash after quitting when im running some type of plugin but im sure Inc isnt running plugins so scratch that
It might be a graphics issues of some sort. When I hit ctrl-alt-delete, nothing changes visibly, but when I run my mouse where the task manager is supposed to be my mouse turns from the VO icon to the default mouse arrow. I assume this means the task manager is up, but I can't see it.
Does this happen in both fullscreen and window mode?
I usually don't play in windowed mode so I couldn't tell you. I could try it if you wanted, but I can't seem to consistently replicate the crash.
Oh, ok. so it's not 100% reproducible then? That helps narrow it down a little.
I'm having the same problem as Conflict Diamond. I run a Mac OSX Version 10.5.8 I run VO full screen, and I can log out, and that takes me to the startup screen. When I click quit, the sound quits, the graphics stop moving, and I have no keyboard function, no mouse function, nothing. The only thing left to do is shut off the power, and re-boot the computer.
Thanks. I think I found the problem. There's a thread contention issue at shutdown. I'm working on a fix and should have one later tomorrow.
having same problem with win. 7 home premium, every time I exit the game crashes. it doesn't freeze the computer it just makes the screen black. i have to hit WIN+L then log back in to use the task manager to kill its process.
Like I said, my computer does not freeze, it responds to the normal shut down command, and yes, I was also running plugin free, as I has just re-installed vo. I'm not having to like hold my power button down, but although Ctrl+Alt+Del might be your way to bring up Task Manager, it's actually the command to lock the screen since NT4, and if you are using a domain server will bring up a *lock screen* message with the option to launch task manager or log off/reboot/etc.
I am disappointed that you do not know this, but MSCE people bring up a task manager with Ctrl+Shift+Esc :P

Ah, should have read after Inc's post, nothing to see here.

Update 1.8.147.1 will be out in a couple of minutes. It should fix the problem. Please let us know whether the updates fixes the crash/lockup on exit problem.
after Update 1.8.147.1, it crashes on startup...wont even get to the login screen.
Khanman, what OS?
sorry, win xp...crashed on exit last night, crash on open today
Ah I see your crash report. Checking it out now. Thanks.
Khanman, what cpu model do you have? Is it an older one or a newer one? (as in does it have sse2 or not)
